| Subject: Jose Aldo claims he was told after UFC 194 loss that he'd be facing Edgar for the FW title Thu Jan 21, 2016 8:52 pm | |

When Conor McGregor knocked out Jose Aldo at UFC 194 to capture the featherweight title, Frankie Edgar was sitting cage-side at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas believing that he’d be facing the winner.
Following the fight, Aldo says he was told that he’d be facing Edgar for the 145-pound title in his next outing and that McGregor could no longer make the weight cut to compete in the featherweight division.
None of that is actually happening.
“Dana [White] and Lorenzo [Fertitta] went to our locker room and said the next fight would be with Frankie Edgar for the title because Conor wouldn’t make the weight anymore. That was the idea when the fight was over,” said Aldo during a recent media scrum in Rio de Janeiro. “But if someone ask me what I want, it is a rematch, of course.”
As it stands today, Edgar and Aldo have no idea whom they’re facing next. McGregor didn’t vacate the 145-pound title, but will be taking on lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 197 on March 5.
The sudden change of plans, according to the former champion, is all about money.
“Everything is about money. If not for that, it wouldn’t have come to this,” said Aldo. “If you look back, I asked to do the exact same thing years ago and they said no. I always asked to fight for the lightweight title, and they said I would have to abandon my belt and fight without it. If I lost or won, they would give me an immediate fight for the belt. Today I’m seeing it’s not like they were saying.”
If he had his way, Aldo would have been granted an immediate rematch against McGregor, but doesn’t care who he faces as long as the title is on the line. http://www.mmaweekly.com/after-ufc-194-loss-jose-aldo-thought-hed-be-fighting-frankie-edgar-for-the-belt Hmmmm..... This is interesting, because while I'm sure some things were lost in translation and Aldo just misunderstood what he was being told, it wouldn't surprise me if there was some truth to this and Dana and/McGregor changed his mind Can't wait to hear Dana's response. | |
