Late Thursday, the MMA world finally learned who “The Last Emperor” will face when he comes back after a retirement in less than two weeks. It’ll be … wait for it … wait for it … Jaideep Singh.

The upstart Rizin Fighting Federation made the announcement during a news conference. Emelianenko (34-4), regarded by most as one of the greatest heavyweights in MMA history, will face Singh (2-0), a kickboxer from India with just two MMA fights on his resume.

The 38-year-old Emelianenko started planning a return to MMA earlier this year after a 2012 retirement, leading many to suggest that the Russian fighting legend could finally make his way to the UFC. Then there was speculation he would go to Bellator.

But instead, he signed with Rizin for his comeback, a promotion started by former PRIDE president Nobuyuki Sakakibara. In September, Sakakibara appeared on the Spike broadcast for Bellator 142, along with Emelianeko, to announce that he will return to the world of MMA, and his new promotion’s first event will take place New Year’s Eve in Tokyo with Emelianenko in the main event. Bellator broadcast partner Spike has exclusive U.S. rights to the event

Nothing against Fedor, but I hope this guy starches him. That would serve these crooks right.
It won't happen, of course, and not just because Fedor is the superior fighter. They're gonna have a longgggggg talk with this guy and let him know that Fedor is the bell cow of this company, and while we're not telling you to lose, we're not paying you to win.

You know it's bad when his former can getter thinks it's weak opposition...

- No, definitely it isn’t. But… Fedor makes all the decisions by himself now. In our past, all troubles and accusations used to befall on me. They said that I was the reason that Fedor didn’t fight in UFC. But now I say officially: I don’t have any relations to this one. Nothing. As for Jaideep Singh, I think he is no match to Fedor Emelianenko. Too weak opposition for him.

I wish in these articles they would say "regarded as one of the greatest heavyweights by SOME".

haven't seen it yet but it seems like the first night of fights was a success for the promotion. kind of like old pride.

The fight was a bad joke. A bad kick boxer with no ground skills in another fight designed to pad the Paper Emperors "legacy". It was an embarrassment to watch and too indicative of Fedor's many legacy fights. The guy should be ashamed of himself, the company should be ashamed it even exists and I feel ashamed for wasting 3 minutes of my life watching it on youtube.
