Alexander Gustafsson not cleared for UFC on FUEL TV 9

The cut, which Gustafsson suffered near his eyebrow during a recent training session, was deemed too substantial, and the SMMAF, which is Sweden's local regulatory body, won't allow clear him to fight. An initial examination took place on Saturday, and today's exam sealed the deal.

"The SMMAF Medical Committee has today reviewed the circumstances regarding Gustafsson and his injury," a statement read. "The SMMAF Medical Committee recognizes that a competitor cannot be medically cleared earlier than the day before the match.

"However, bearing in mind that a correct medical examination that met the regulatory demands has been performed, nothing in the SMMAF regulations hinders the SMMAF Medical Committee from making a decision to stop Gustafsson from competing. As it is clear that Alexander Gustafsson will not be fit to compete as planned and cannot be medically cleared on Friday the 5th of April, the SMMAF Medical Committee has today decided that Alexander Gustafsson will not be allowed to participate in the planned match."

UFC officials haven't made a formal announcement. It's unknown if Mousasi will get a late-replacement or opponent if the card will be shuffled, though an update is expected shortly.

That was a huge mismatch, anyway.
I doubt we'll get a replacement. I would say bring in a fight from one of the other cards over the next few weeks (there's a card every week this month), but since this card is in Sweden, I'm guessing getting visas or passports or whatever in this short amount of time might be a problem.

Hate to say it, but it looks like we're stuck with Ross Pearson vs Ryan Couture as our main event.

Ilir latifi is going to replace gustaffson. He is actually Gustaffsons training partner.

Yeah, I figured they'd have to get a resident to replace him on short notice.
Will be pretty funny if this guy makes easy work of Moussassi.

I don't know about that. Does anyone know when the cut actually happened? I know there was a pic out there of it, and it was determined yesterday that the cut wouldn't be healed in time, but that doesn't mean the cut happened in the last couple of days. All I can find regarding when the cut actually occurred was "during a recent training session" or some other generic timeframe like that. That could mean Friday or Sunday or two weeks ago. I don't think it's impossible for the cut to have healed that much between the two pictures of it over the span of two weeks or so.
