OH SHIT! Alistair Overeem Fails Pre-Fight Drug Test for UFC 146

Last week, the Nevada State Athletic Commission sprung a surprise drug test on the six featured fighters appearing in UFC 146. Unfortunately for heavyweight top contender Alistair Overeem (Pictured), the results from the pop quiz revealed he had elevated levels of testosterone in his system.

According to NSAC executive director Kieth Kizer, Overeem’s “A” sample produced a Testosterone/Epitestosterone (T/E) ratio of more than 10:1. Kizer said the controversial kickboxer can request the verdict of his “B” sample, which may allow him to receive a fight license if it returned negative.

“The Demolition Man” must now appear before the commission to try and get licensed for his title scrap against champion Junior dos Santos. However, it appears highly unlikely the shootout will come to fruition given today’s news.

The NSAC allows a T/E ratio of 6:1. Just in case you were wondering, the World Anti-Doping Agency permits a 4:1 mark.

Dos Santos, Frank Mir, Cain Velasquez, Roy Nelson and Antonio Silva all passed their drug screenings with flying colors.

Overeem’s presence in Las Vegas last week was what likely prompted the NSAC’s impromptu test. The 31-year-old had some issues with his pre-fight exam for UFC 141. After clearing the air with the NSAC, the board granted him a conditional license to fight Brock Lesnar on New Year’s Eve weekend.

As part of the commission’s stipulation, Overeem would subject himself to two random tests over the next six months. Last Tuesday’s urinalysis left him with only one exam remaining on that commitment.

UFC 146 goes down May 26th inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Nevada. No word on who might serve as Overeem’s substitute to challenge dos Santos for his freshly-minted crown

Legit, Mir is probably the best choice right now. Move up Struve or Hunt against Cain and then get someone to fill thay spot. Not an ideal card but it's better than scrapping the title fight.

I think the vast majority of us were thinking this was going to happen when we heard about the surprise test.
Good thing this card is loaded with HWs to begin with. Maybe that was an insurance policy by the UFC; fill the card with top-tier HWs that can be put into the title fight in case Overeem gets nailed.

You didn't hear, Pete? That was what they actually tested for. It wasn't a piss test or anything like that; they just took a tape measure and checked everyone's heads. Anyone who was more than 8% over the average human head diameter was automatically deemed guilty of injecting centaur pheremones into their faces. No piss test needed.

According to the NSAC Executive Director, Keith Kizer, out of the six men tested only Alistair Overeem failed. He tested positive for an increased testosterone/epitestosterone or T/E ratio of more than 10-to-1 and the allowable limit is 6-to-1.

The allowable limit for most other international sports is 4 : 1

That's not fair though, look at Tito's noggin and he's never pissed hot. Hey I know, they should measure everyone's head now and compare it with their head measurement from when they fought in PRIDE, and if it's like 40% bigger then they can start suspending people.

Yeah I know, I was fucking around. That was my arguement the last time we had this discussion about Overeem. If we're just going by head size, then you could name a dozen fighters right now who are suspect based on that alone. As it turns out, Overeem probably has an increased for PED reasons, but that doesn't mean GSP, BJ, etc. are using just because they're noggins got bigger over the years.
