The scrap had been anticipated for several weeks, but recent chatter of Melendez vacating his belt to join the big leagues kept most guessing if the title tilt would actually go down.

Melendez owns an impressive 19-2 professional record and was last seen posting a TKO victory over Tatsuya Kawajiri this past April. “El Niño” is widely regarded as the best 155-pounder not competing in the UFC.

Did anyone notice during the UFC event this past Saturday that Joe Rogan actually outright said that Gilbert Melendez was coming to the UFC? I don't remeber the exact words he used, but during one of the fights, he was talking about how stacked the LW division is, and said something to the effect of "It's gonna be even more stacked because Gilbert Melendez is coming over".

I recall that as well,
it was in the same message as potentially
having fighters added like Eddie Alvarez to the LW division;
and also how the UFC's LW division is the most crazy stacked division in MMA.

I can't help but wonder if Joe has a little inside info, or if he just got over-excited. Not that we don't already know that Gilbert is coming over after beating Masvidal. I'm just saying.......

Yeah I can remember him saying that as well... guess we have to wait a bit longer.

I like what Ben Fowlkes with (mmafighting.com) had to say about Gray Maynard's next opponent as he has dominated most of the upper tier LW's; he proposed Nate Diaz as a good match up for Gray.

I completely agree with Rogan when he says the LW division is the most crazy stacked division in the UFC; it seriously is crazy. Any fighter can potentially win and upset on any given night, prime example being J-Lau; and once more fighters are added to the mix it will be even crazier.
