'Rampage' Jackson contract with Bellator was crazy Empty
PostSubject: 'Rampage' Jackson contract with Bellator was crazy    'Rampage' Jackson contract with Bellator was crazy EmptyThu Mar 05, 2015 12:27 pm

Bellator’s lawsuit against Quinton Jackson details the lavish contract the Viacom-owned promotion now seeks to enforce, according to a report from Newsday.

Included in Jackson’s deal was a 2013 Tesla Sport worth $129,603 and a $200,000 check paid to the fighter when the promotion’s lone pay-per-view event fell short of expectations in pay-per-view sales.

Bellator is asking the court to block “Rampage” (35-11 MMA, 7-5 UFC) from fighting Fabio Maldonado (22-7 MMA, 5-4 UFC) next month at UFC 186. A hearing is scheduled for April 2 in Superior Court in Burlington County, N.J., where the suit was filed Monday.

The Viacom-owned promotion claims in the lawsuit that it fulfilled its contractual obligations to Jackson and alleges the fighter breached his when he re-signed this past December with the UFC.

Bellator on Monday issued a press release that stated “Rampage” had only completed three fights of an exclusive six-fight deal he signed in May 2013. The promotion said he is “barred by contract from fighting for any promoter other than Bellator” and “will compel” the fighter “to honor his contractual agreement.”

Bellator has declined additional comment on Jackson’s litgation, and UFC officials did not respond to requests for comment.

Shortly after news of the suit broke, Jackson, 36, scoffed at Bellator, writing on Twitter that he’d “never received any paperwork.

“There is no injunction! Just jokes!” he wrote.

Today, the ex-UFC champ wrote: “Haha the paper work is in but it’s still a JOKE! Plus throwing papers on the ground outside my gym in the parking lot is not serving me.”

This past December, Jackson said he terminated his contract with Bellator when the promotion failed to account for the pay-per-view performance of Bellator 120, which took place this past May and featured his headliner opposite Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal. According to the lawsuit, he was scheduled to receive $4 for every pay-per-view buy over 190,000; Spike TV President Kevin Kay said the event drew 100,000 buys.

Jackson said Bellator breached its deal by not providing him pay-per-view numbers from the event and not resolving the issue within a specified 45-day window. On Oct. 14, longtime Jackson manager Anthony McGann reportedly sent notice to Bellator notifying it of a breach for not providing the pay-per-view numbers, the report said.

The lawsuit claims that Kay did provide the information. According to the report, Kay provided Bellator 120’s pay-per-view results to McGann “shortly after the fight.” The suit claims neither McGann nor Jackson requested a written report of the results, though it also claims McGann intended to breach a confidentiality agreement by releasing the report “and additional details about Bellator’s relationship with Jackson to the public,” according to Newsday.

Bellator also claims it rehabilitated Jackson’s standing in the MMA industry after a long slide in the UFC, which he left amid discontent with the promotion’s management.

According to the the perks detailed by Newsday, Jackson’s six-fight deal included:

A $100,000 signing bonus
A minimum of $200,000 and maximum of $300,000 for non-PPV fights
A minimum of $200,000 and maximum of $450,000 for PPV fights
A $50,000 bonus if he didn’t receive a certain amount from sponsorship
30 percent of Bellator’s net gate receipts over $400,000 at events in which he fought
$35,000 per episode for his participation in the Spike TV reality series, “Rampage 4 Real”
A screenwriter for a feature film project and access to Paramount Pictures to develop film projects
A red carpet appearance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards
$200,000 bonus for Bellator 120
$4 for every Bellator 120 pay-per-view buy over 190,000
A 2013 Tesla Sport worth $129,603
The suit also said Bellator spent $250,000 to advertise Bellator 120 during the 2014 NBA Playoffs and another $200,000 to secure rights to a Rolling Stones song for an advertisement featuring Jackson.

Yeah, Rampage Kimbo is really all there is that sparks my interest with Bellator though. I guess a match-up with him and Newton would be ok, but I just see Newton getting KOd fast. Then maybe a match-up with the newly crowned champ.... but none of that touches anything the UFC has to offer in terms of exciting fights.
