| Subject: Fedor to fight in UFC?? "Never" says Dana Wed Mar 28, 2012 6:00 pm | |

Fedor Emelianenko’s recent public utterances have him keen to fight in the UFC, ostensibly for the chance to fight the best competition but also of course because the UFC is where the only real money in MMA can be made these days.
Here at Fighters Only we were pretty sure a public softening of position on both sides, plus a tamer rhetoric, meant that a deal was close. But then someone went and asked Dana White about it and the rhetoric got unsoftened again really quickly.
“Fedor will never fight in the UFC. He’s past his prime. You’ve heard this story before, and you know it’s true, Vadim you sneaky bast@rd,” he told the Swedish outlet MMA Nytt.
“We flew out to this fu-king island in the middle of nowhere and gave them the best fu-king deal in the history of mankind. And, Vadim, I bet you wish you could jump into a fu-kin’ time machine and go back and take that deal now, don’t ya? Dummy.”
Obviously White’s comments are somewhat cryptic but what we think he is saying is that he doesn’t like Fedor’s manager Vadim Finkelstein very much and that he is very unlikely to repeat the big money, special favours offer that was made a couple of years ago.
That was turned down by the Russian side, with Finkelstein refusing to budge on co-promotion demands for events featuring Fedor. But then when Fedor went on a three-fight slide they had markedly less leverage, which recently prompted a public recanting of the co-promotion demand.
However it seems its too little too late. Such bad blood has built up on White’s side that he doesn’t want to know, at any price. The only silver lining might be that Lorenzo Fertitta has been known to step in and handle negotiations that White has found impossible for various reasons, often personal ones, which still leaves a small window of opportunity that Fedor might yet appear under the UFC banner.
Fighters Only also heard at the weekend that Fedor is being courted by the Indian MMA show Super Fight League, which debuted last month. Aside from them and One FC, there are few outlets for his combative skills unless he fancies a drop to light-heavyweight and a serious drop in pay to take a role with Bellator FC. srce cde | |
