And I will never understand the Silva nut huggers.
I'll give Silva the title of "Best Striker" no problem... the best ever... I can't bring myself to say that about some one who has ZERO TDD. But that's a whole other discussion.

So on to the matter at hand, what exactly did he do in that fight that was impressive? All cheating or not cheating aside. What the hell did he do? First round: I think he got one punch off in the first and had no answer for Chael on the ground but to hold on for dear life like a baby chimp attached to his mother. That's not hate thats pure unbiased telling you what happened.

Second round: Well, since I'm trying to avoid any of the "cheating" talk... I'll just skip all that and jump to the end. Chael throws an out of character spinning back fist, trips on Silva's foot and Anderson, being the ultimate opportunist that he is, takes that time to throw a knee and a few poorly placed punches for the quick stoppage victory.

The whole way the fight ended just left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm sure no one here will believe me when I tell you this; but, I was about to finally jump on board the Silva train. But, that was only if he came out and dominaged Sonnen and showed improved wrestling... that didn't happen.

i think i have finally calmed down from the disappointment. and i still comepletely agree with chrom. anderson desrves praise; for his striking, quick thinking, chin, and will to win...everything that makes a champion. but he still behaves like a douche lol and he did cheat in thins fight. chael might not have won either way, he was gassing quickly, but silva clearly was frustrated after the first round and did everything possible not to get to the ground.
chael passed his guard at the end of the first round and silva was hanging on for dear life. all he does on the ground is wait, stick his arms out like a noob and rely on his granite chin. chael would have passed it again and rained some punches next time. so, that shorts pulling is a big deal. the fight would have been different
andersons time has come, just like it does for anybody. if its not chael, other fights now know what to do.

how can you guys say 0 take down defense? he stopped 4 attempts by sonnen in round 2 and not every attempt was stopped by an illegal act

hate if you want to hate i personally dont care......but get the facts straight

vassaline- yes he did smear it, then the ref wiped it off, and sonnen was able to get a take down....

short holding- sure, sonnen did it too! and anderson was warned (could have taken a point and nothing would have changed!)

knee- was a legal strike and chael got up after, so it didnt change the outcome anyways....(as for the "8 stitches" sonnen was talking just fine at the presser and spit plenty after the fight...i saw no blood and i imagine with 8 stitches in your tongue you might sound a little different or even with a gash on your tongue that hasnt been stitched yet you wouldnt be speaking as clearly as sonnen was....im not 100% sure the 8 stitches is accurate)

the finish- anderson was man handling sonnen like he did franklin and dropped him with a clean punch to the face then got on top and finished...it was sonnen that went all fetal and had no defense despite not being knocked out

I was gonna come on here and point to exactly what it is that you guys are seemingly willfully ignoring, but it looks like norcalmatt has it covered.

If you hate Silva, you hate him. Whatever.
But at least be reasonable in your assessent of what he did or didn't do without letting your hatred cloud your judgment.

If you guys honestly think he has zero TDD or he consistently does nothing off of his back then I don't even know what to say. I have to believe that you know better than that.

I didn't say he never does anything off of his back, it's just that he didn't in the first round of this fight.

No, you said he has zero TDD.
The Commie said he does nothing off his back.

Therefore Chael should've been dq'd for illegal heabutting.

I think Silva is the greatest fighter ever...I do.

But I also think Chael exposed some flaws.

This is just my opinion of course, but anyways:

1) He seems to too willingly accept being on his back. He has a great guard and takes little to no damage on his back, but he makes no effort to sweep or get up, almost like "I will just defend this until next round when we start on our feet again." Imo he could be suseptible to the LnP like chael did in the first six rounds of their encounters.

2) He did not seem comfortable at all when Chael went right at him. Nobody has ever gone right at Anderson before. They always let him find his range and he is SO accurate he murders people. When chael went right at Anderson he connected and then Anderson didn’t look comfortable at all. Once Anderson stuffed a couple of take downs against chael he was able to get a good distance away from him and then it was over. You could see Anderson believes he is unbeatable at a distance (which I think he is). Even when chael missed that spinning elbow, Anderson was standing there with his hands at his sides like “yeah what are you gonna do to me? Nothing.”

3) Say what you want but his TDD is below average. He has been fortunate enough to not have to face many wrestlers in his career and those that he did (minus hendo) stood there in awe of him and let him pick them apart.

Now keep in mind I realize that nobody has ever been able to do anything about Anderson's weaknesses and thats what makes him the GOAT, but i do think that chael has somewhat opened up a small blueprint that future fighters may be able to use against him.

Go right at him.

I think another key to what happened is not only did Chael go right at Silva but Silva uncharachteristically went right after Chael...so instead of Anderson getting to use good footwork and get out of the way and strike from a distance they both clashed and takedowns won.

The funny thing about it is that Silva has been exposed. He has been put in bad situations.

But how many fighters can you count that have overcome so many bad situations?
And if you can match that number, how many fighters have overcome as many bad situations as Silva has and had as many dominating performances as Silva has had?

Zero.

Sorry, but even Fedor hasn't had as many meanigful victories as Silva has had.

I agree Trigger. Despite the exposed areas 2 things happen...1) he either overcomes the adversity and still wins, or 2) his opponents still find it necessary to try to beat him at his own game of striking.

So exposed or not he's still the most dominant fighter MMA has ever seen.

Wow ....

Wow ....

In order to stifle the haters Anderson had to cut Sonnen to shreds. By simply beating him in a fair fight it gives the haters room to whine and doubt and over-analyze ANYTHING they can grasp onto like a drowning man.

I say FUCK the drowning men.... let em sink below the waves and the rest of us can celebrate Anderson's fair and square second punishing win over the big mouthed Sonnen who in the end couldn't find a way to back up his shit talking.... TWICE.

For the record...I'm a Silva fan and strongly agree that he won fair and square and is the most dominant champion MMA has ever seen...yes...even more dominant the Fedor.
