Fantasy League Season 4 - WHO IS INTERESTED??

OK all,
Let me know if you are interested.  Full rules are listed below.
I will run this season very similarly to last season with a few changes (most notably, no trades, since it takes too much of my time to keep them all straight).

For now, just let me know if you are IN, and if the dates work for everyone.  I am not going to go through the effort to set this up if there are not at least 5 people interested.

Again, this requires very little effort during the season since there will be no roster changes allowed, and I take the burden of all the scorekeeping.

Full Rules:
First things first.
Let me know if you want in. If you are returning, also let me know your keepers (if any).
Your draft order will be determined by the order you submit your first proxy draft list to me.
Draft day is December 2nd so start thinking about your proxy draft order (this will not be a live draft). I will need your proxy draft list by 11:59pm on December 1st.  You are encouraged to submit your draft list early…. You may edit your list as many times as you want prior to December 2nd.

Season will run from the afternoon of December 4th through January 2, 2017 (unless there is another league fight scheduled within 2 days of that date).

Draft Rules:
1. Each participant will draft a team of 14 fighters (subject to change based on number of participants).
2. You must have at least one fighter from each of the top 8 men’s weight classes as of today’s eligibility (HW, LHW, MW, WW, LW, FW, BW, FLW). PLUS 1 WMMA fighter (any weight class).  Your remaining draft picks can be in any weight class or gender.
3. Drafts will be done using your own proxy list where your "best available" will be drafted automatically. (ie... you don't have to worry about being around for a live draft). When drafting, I will pick the highest fighter still available on your list, unless it comes down to you still needing to fill a gap in a weight class.
4. This will be a "snake" draft, meaning the person who picks last in the first round will pick first in the second round (and so on).
5. When filling out your proxy list, I suggest listing at least 50 fighters. If your list is too short and you have nobody left on your list, I will default to the next highest ranked athlete available from the site's "top 10 rankings" (starting with HW), and then fightmatrix.com. You also have the option to list fighters you definitely do not want along with your proxy list in case your list is too short.
This is a keeper league. Season 2 teams may keep up to 2 of their current roster fighters in exchange for the following respective round draft picks (1st, 2nd).
6. After the draft is complete, there will be a FREE open period of 2 days to make any trades or acquisitions from the undrafted list.
7.  There will be NO trades allowed this year.  Once your roster is finalized, it is finalized for the season.  Instead, the bottom two point getters will be automatically eliminated from every team at the end of the season.

How do I win?

Most Points wins.
a. Each team will be ranked by total points earned from qualified “MMA Professional Fights” based on the following scoring.
b. Win = 5 Points
c. Loss = 4 Point Penalty
d. Draw/No Contest = 0 Points
e. A Finish (TKO/Sub) = 3 bonus points
f. A win against another fighter in the league = 2 bonus point
g. A win against a top 10 fighter (per our site’s top 10 rankings) at the time of the fight = 1 bonus point
h. If you have two guys on your team fighting each other, you will have the opportunity to “rest” a fighter for that fight. This means you can pick which fighter to not score for that fight. If I am not notified in time, both fighters will be scored accordingly with no penalties waived.
i.  The worst two fighters’ scores will be eliminated from every team.
i. Tie Breakers in the following order: 1) Most wins, 2) Most Wins Head –to Head, 3) Most Wins Against League Opponent, 4) Most finishes, 5) Highest Pointed fighter, 2nd highest pointed fighter, etc….  (All tiebreakers based off entire roster of 14)

What can I win?
Winner gets $15,000 in standard cash. 2nd place is $7,500 in standard cash. Also, $150 in standard cash for every win (full roster of 14). All payouts will be made at the end of the season.


Can I cut a guy who sucks (or for any reason)?
No.  You are stuck with the team you drafted the entire season.  This is why the bottom two fighters will not be counted at the end of the season.  It perhaps could be in your favor to stay away from fighters that are old, don’t fight often, are injury prone, or suspension prone.

Are there some strategies to drafting?
1. I would stick with guys you think will get a lot of activity, as you will have more chances to score points. You may be treading on thin ice to draft a guy who may retire soon.
2. There IS an incentive to draft guys who finish fights more often and will face a higher level of athletes, however inactivity will hurt you more than anything else.

What happens when fight outcomes are overruled?
Sherdog fight statistics within 6 hours of the fight will hold. (ie.. if a fight gets ruled a NC when a fighters drug test results come back a week later, points will not be adjusted). 6 hours grace will be given in the event of erroneous score cards, etc..  I am going with the same methodology sportsbooks use.

What happens if one of my fighters changes weight classes during the season?
It doesn't matter. You only need to have the specified number of athletes in each weight class for drafting purposes. No restrictions on how your weight classes are filled after the first fight of the season.


I think I covered everything. If you can think of any nuances before you submit your proxy list, please let me know beforehand. Afterwards, I will have to make the final decision.
REMEMBER... THIS IS JUST FOR FUN. No cost to participate, and essentially no time commitment for the entire year once you make your proxy list. I assume all the burden of keeping the scoring up to date.  Obviously, you could help me out if you draft someone that’s not a big name and/or fights in a lesser known organization by posting ahead of time.

Buddy, I know this is tough for you with the new job and all that, and I don't think anyone would blame you if you couldn't swing it this season.

With that said, we all owe stock a big thank you for doing this if we decide to go ahead.

Not that big of a deal. If I don't have to worry about trades/roster changes after the season starts... that's 50% of the time commitment.
I'm settled in now, and so long as I can get some leeway when I have work travel to get caught up.

Correct, you are just out of luck.

To make up for that, your worst two fighters (in terms of points) will be dropped. I've also added two more roster spots.

The only action required by anyone during the season is to let me know if you have two fighters on your team fighting each other, which one to bench for the week.

1. Draft order will be determined by order I receive them.
(you may still make edits to your list anytime before Dec 2nd, and will not affect your draft order).
2. Returning teams, please announce your keepers (if any).
Keepers will take the place of 1st and 2nd round picks respectfully.

Hey guys, you will still need to submit a proxy list.
You can only keep 2 fighters from season 3 if you choose to give up your 1st and 2nd round pick to keep them.

In other words, the draft works exactly the same as last year's.
Send me a list of 50 fighters (or however many you think you need) in the order you would like them drafted in.

On December 2nd, I will draft on your behalf choosing the best available from your list.

No real hurries. I am not drafting until December 2nd.
I just suggest getting them in early as Thanksgiving week is coming up and it will come quick.

Drainbamage is the first one officially in.
He is keeping Max Holloway as his only keeper.
He is currently slotted for the 1st overall draft pick (which he loses for his one keeper).

He has until 1159pm on December 1st to make any edits to his proxy list.

In the event your proxy lists run a little thin, make sure you all understand the rules for drafting if you run out of fighters on your list from a weight class that needs filling.

I suggest that this season all proxy lists be "vetted" through me first and then I will send them on to stock......
