Tyron Woodley Promised Next Title Shot After Hendricks Drops Out of Their UFC 192 Bout

In the wake of Johny Hendricks‘ weight cutting issues forcing the UFC 192 co-main event’s cancellation, Tyron Woodley is an unsuspecting benefactor. Though the winner of the fight was expected to get a title shot, even with the fight’s cancellation, Woodley says he has been promised a shot at the winner of Robbie Lawler vs. Carlos Condit.

Lawler is scheduled to put his belt up against Condit at UFC 195 on Jan. 2 in Las Vegas.

Yahoo Sports reporter Kevin Iole first reported the news about Woodley’s title shot following a conversation with UFC president Dana White.


Tyron-woodley-750Woodley (15-3) has won four out of his last five fights, including a victory over Condit. He defeated Kelvin Gastelum and Dong Hyun Kim in his two most recent bouts.

With the Hendricks vs. Woodley bout scrapped, a preliminary bout between top flyweights Joseph Benavidez and Ali Bagautinov has been promoted to the pay-per-view main card.

Well he does deserve that much after that Hendricks crap. Woodleys no small guy either i can only imagine how hard his weight cut had to have been and then to find out the other guy didnt even come close. That would piss me off big time.

I almost think this was as much about the UFC saying to hendricks "this is what you get for missing weight" as it was for giving Woodley a shot. Good on them.

Hendricks.... sigh..... you can't make weight so you almost kill yourself? Yeah good one ... you're a real professional. Why not fight in your real weight class?

Oh I know. Cause everyone in Middleweight would beat Hendricks to a pulp.

When does this new "no IV" or whatever-the-fuck law go into effect?

Well the IV thing is about rehydrating after you make the weight. Hendricks never even came close lol.

Yeah, but this just reminded me that I heard it was going into effect soon.

I'm sure this will make him reconsider trying to make WW if he's not allowed to use that method of rehydration anymore. In fact, I think I saw an article where he already said he's considering MW.

I think its quite telling that he know he'd never stand a chance of being champion at MW.
Maybe he should try to cut down to Featherweight?
