Frankie Edgar vs Chad Mendes to headline TUF 22 Finale

Former lightweight champion Edgar (19-4-1) is ranked second in the UFC’s 145-pound division and is currently on a four-fight winning streak.  He’s coming off a unanimous decision win over Urijah Faber in his last outing.  The 33-year-old’s lone loss as a featherweight is to champion Jose Aldo.  Edgar has been lobbying for a fight that would get him back to a title shot and a win over Mendes would likely do the trick.


Mendes (17-3) occupies the third spot in the featherweight rankings and is coming off a TKO loss to interim champion Conor McGregor in his last outing.  He hopes to remain in the title picture with a win over Edgar, but has lost twice to champion Aldo.

The Ultimate Fighter 22 is set to debut on Sept. 9 on Fox Sports 1.  The finale will take place in Las Vegas at a venue soon to be announced. Four fights have been confirmed for the Dec. 11 event.

I would rather have seen Edgar vs Max Holloway, but these were bound to run into each other sooner or later.

You think so?
I was actually thinking he was gonna win this, but you might be right. Edgar's boxing is cleaner, so he could pull away pretty quickly if he's disciplined, which he usually is.

But yeah, if Edgar wins, Mendes is in a tough spot. He's already years away from another title shot if Aldo retains it, and another loss would pretty much put him back in the middle of the pack where he's getting fights against guys like Bermudez, Elkins, Kawajiri, Tavares, and Oliveira. Not exactly title eliminator bouts like he's used to.

I think frankie will take this via UD. I just think frankie is too quick and has 3 times the gas tank of mendes.

i cant see how frankie could lose to mendes.
mendes is a top notch guy but he isnt in the same boat as edgar fightwise.
edgar has been in wars against much better talent and has shown that he has all the tools to make things happen.
i hope edgar wins, then he dethrones aldo, set up another fight between mcgregor/mendes, let frankie fight holloway

surprised they put this bout together. i could have seen frankie vs max and mendes vs stephens
