- After discovering UFC matchmaker Joe Silva nixed a rematch between BJ Penn and Jon Fitch due to lack of interest, another elite welterweight quickly offered up his services. On Monday evening, Carlos Condit took to his Twitter and claimed he wanted to give the fans the shootout they have been clamoring for.
“The people have spoken @bjpenndotcom, they want to see us scrap, let’s give em what they asked for,” Condit posted.
With no fight to focus on, Penn was sitting idly by his computer when he noticed Condit’s message appear on his monitor. The Hawaiian not only promptly accepted the challenge, but he even took the liberty of proposing the when and the where.
“@CarlosCondit Yup. Let’s do it! October 29th,” Penn responded.
Now that the combatants have expressed their interest, it’s up to Octagon brass to issue bout agreements.
Prior to Penn and Fitch’s controversial draw at UFC 127, company president Dana White stated the winner of the February affair would advance to challenge king Georges St-Pierre for his crown. | I think Condit witll maul BJ like a momma bear pretecting her cubs. I think BJ's better days are well behind him, he is too slow to be a LW (as Frankie showed us) and too small to be a WW. | |
