Robbie Lawler to face Carlos Condit for next title defense at UFC 193 in Australia

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is heading to Melbourne, Australia for the first time on Nov. 15 (Nov. 14 in the U.S.). There are still a lot of variables to nail down, but for now, pencil in a UFC welterweight title fight between champion Robbie Lawler and challenger Carlos Condit for the fight card.

The fight, first reported by Bleacher Report, has been signed, according to UFC Tonight, and is being targeted for UFC 193 in Australia. The promotion, however, has two venues to choose from: Etihad Stadium and Rod Laver Arena. The UFC would like to make a huge splash for its first event in Melbourne, but hasn’t yet decided on the venue.

Lawler (26-10, 1 NC) is fresh off of a fifth-round TKO stoppage of Rory MacDonald, which followed wins over Johny Hendricks, Matt Brown, and Jake Ellenberger.

Condit (30-8 ) is a former interim UFC welterweight champion, but has had a rough couple of years. After defeating Martin Kampmann in August of 2013, he suffered a severe knee injury in a TKO stoppage loss to Tyron Woodley in March of 2014.

Condit finally returned in May of this year, winning a TKO (doctor’s stoppage) over Thiago Alves, which vaulted him back into the championship mix.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that someone will bleed at some point during this contest.
I know I know.......crazy huh?

Yeah, this will be great assuming the Conditt that fought Nick Diaz doesn't show up.

I think Lawler will pull this out but i wont be surprised at all if Condit did win. This has to be the hardest title defense for Lawler to date.

Yeah as far as a stand-up fight is concerned, Condit is like the prefect counter to Lawler's vicious offensive onslaught.
Condit is also a powerful, technical offensive fighter, but he also has more striking tools than Lawler and, most importantly, actually uses all of them on a regular basis. On top of that, he has a great chin, isn't afraid to brawl if the situation calls for it, and doesn't panic when he gets rocked or badly cut (both of which are very likely to happen in this fight!!).

I'm not saying Condit will win, but if there was ever a fighter who could take the best Lawler can throw at him and still find a way to keep coming forward and hit Lawler with enough shots to confuse and make him 2nd guess if he has what it takes to put this guy away, it's Condit.

As someone already stated I hope Condit doesnt get all Greg Jacksony again like the Nick Diaz fight cuz that would suck, but I would not put it past them to come in with that gameplan.

I hate saying that because Condit is one of the best finishers the sport has ever seen, but I know if Greg Jackson thinks there is even a hint of danger he will implement "plan safe"

Can we patent a phrase for that? Like when a fighter (preferably a Greg Jackson fighter) is running around and point-fighting and not engaging and clearly just trying to play it safe and win a UD without actually fighting, wouldn't it be easier if we just said they were 'Greg Jacksoning', or  maybe 'Jacksoning' for short?
