The Walking Dead - Page 10 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Walking Dead   The Walking Dead - Page 10 EmptyFri Mar 07, 2014 6:12 am

I see where you guys are coming from. I gave it some thought last night. I try never to be judgmental, so in an attempt to make sense of it all my mind went directly to "how the hell dont these guys love every second of this show?" lol

Anyways, after giving it some thought, I think it has to do with the fact that I read the books. For years I read and loved the books and now seeing it all come to life on tv (even though they stray far from the story) is totally awesome. I love every single second of it especially the character development because its just damn cool seeing it all come about. So even when episodes like last sunday happen I am glued to my set shoveling popcorn in my mouth wondering what beth is going to say next lol.

I can imagine that not reading the book I would feel exactly like you guys do. Wanting to see some action. And I DO NOT blame you in the least.

Anyways, did anyone see the coming attraction for next week? Again such fucking awesome directing. The three of them back to back in fog. My wife and I just looked at each other and were both like "seriously they have to fucking deal with fog now" haha.

The Walking Dead - Page 10 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Walking Dead   The Walking Dead - Page 10 EmptyFri Mar 07, 2014 10:04 am

I think my main issue is that I don't watch much TV at all. I take that back I don't watch much SERIOUS tv at all. I watch sitcoms...stuff not meant to have any drama involved...the middle, the neighbors, parks and recreation, modern family and seinfeld...those are my shows. There are only two "serious" shows I watch, TUF and The Walking Dead....which means The Walking Dead is the ONLY horror/drama/serious show that involves an ongoing plot and development. Having said that for me to continue to watch it there MUST be something consistently keeping me going...when there is even one lull in the action I immediately begin to become judgemental and lose interest....hence the reason I don't watch much TV...it becomes stale, stupid, reaches too far and bores me. This is why I think that movies are the better way to go than ongoing series...movies have finality, a beginning, a middle and a definitive end. An ongoing series doesn't always have that, it has a beginning, which is usually great, a middle which is pretty intense...but then the creators never want an end so they keep drawing it out and trying to achieve new ways to entertain and it becomes stupid or boring..and I drop off. This is exactly what happened with Prison Break, and Heroes, and Sparticus...I can only take so much before I have to enforce the finality. I forsee this happening somtime next season with me and the walking dead. We shall see though.

That's why I LOVED the Sopranos...they knew when to end it and instead of drawing it out with more scenarios...they did just that, ended it on a high note.

The Walking Dead - Page 10 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Walking Dead   The Walking Dead - Page 10 EmptyFri Mar 07, 2014 1:35 pm

Fistk, I can understand that. But I usually have the opposite problem when it pertains to books and TV/movie adaptations. I'm not saying you're wrong or shouldn't feel that way, but just from an observational and conversational standpoint, I usually am more apt to feel dissapointed in the show/movie, given that I already read the book and had a certain level of expectation that usually isn't up to my standard. I read a ton of Stephen King books, and aside from a few exceptions, it always ends with me going "Why the hell did they change that? That's not how it was in the book! This sucks..." lol

But anyway, no; I don't like this sitting around and talking about their feeling stuff. Yes; I wish there more action like I'm used to seeing over the last few seasons. But it's still one of my favorite shows, and that won't change because of a slow half-season. If there's a silver lining, it's that I do get this feeling that something big is coming. It may not be coming any time soon, but I'd still rather continue watching these slow episodes and wait for the more exciting episodes than give up and watch a lower-quality show.

The Walking Dead - Page 10 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Walking Dead   The Walking Dead - Page 10 EmptyMon Mar 10, 2014 1:39 am

Now that's more like it!!!

Not much I didn't like about this episode.
We got some different overlapping storylines, instead of the entire episode focusing on one group. We got some serious walker threats all-up-in-your-face going on, instead of two or three springing up here and there. We got some scary human interaction, instead of mostly isolation. In short, I'm stoked for the next episode.

I still don't like Beth at all, but even I was "Ohhh, fuck no!" When she got kidnapped by the psychortician (which is my educated guess on who that was). The obvious choice of who is going to save her is Daryl (regardless of his current situation), but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Carol and Tyrese.
Speaking of Daryl....Shit! WTF?! I really don't know where this is going. He's gonna have to immerse himself into the bandit group, but I don't think he'll go as far as harming one of his real group members if it came down to it. However, I think we're gonna see him engage in some pretty bad-guy type of behavior before all is said and done with that group. I'm expecting his new bandit group to re-encounter Rick, and that guy who saw him under the bed is gonna recognize him, which in turn will cause Daryl to turn on his new group and ignite a Rick/Michonne/Carl/Darryl vs Bandits showdown.
As far as the Maggie/Sasha/Bob group.... shit, I don't care. I'm just glad to see Maggie again! Wink

Oh, and Glen's group? I don't know.... They'll make it to Terminus and whatever.

PostSubject: Re: The Walking Dead   The Walking Dead - Page 10 EmptyMon Mar 10, 2014 7:22 am

I saw the complete opposite Trigger. I'm bored to freaking TEARS this season. I don't watch this show for character development, I watch it for intense action and gore....the action is freaking negative right now. How effing long do we have to keep this damn sexual tension going between Beth and Darryl...3...4 freaking episodes? Just kiss and do whatever already so we can move on.

And that whole "fog" teaser last week? I thought there was going to be some intense scary zombies coming through the fog...they literally spent 7 seconds tops in the fog and that was the scene. Booo.

Boring, terrible episode IMO

Well then I don't what kind of action it is that you're looking for. lol
There were about 50 walkers killed this episode, Darryl trapped in a tiny morgue room with like 12 of them, Maggie decapitating them with a street sign, Beth getting kidnapped by a crazy mortician who's bored so he embalms walkers, and Daryl joining a group of bandits (the same group Rick just escaped from).

What else do you want? Everyone of note to die in a bloodbath in one episode? LOL!

How did I miss Beth getting captured? Was that real quick? I saw you posted that in your earlier post but what exactly happened?

And yes...a big freaking bloodbath is in fact what I want! Every damn episode! I'm serious, this dramatic bullshit of emo freaking Daryl and wandering people is just too lame for me.

The Walking Dead - Page 10 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Walking Dead   The Walking Dead - Page 10 EmptyMon Mar 10, 2014 3:49 pm

Yeah when Daryl and Beth were having their pig's feet, Coke, and PB&J dinner at the funaeral home, they heard the tin-can alarm go off on the front porch again. Thinking it was that dog again, Daryl just flings open the door and a hoard of walkers come barging in on him. He yells to Beth and tells her to go out the back and circle back out to the road and he'll meet her there. So he battles the walkers down in the prep room of the funeral home and manages to escape. Then he heads to the road to meet Beth, but sees her bag just lying there on the road. He looks up and there's a hearse speeding away down the road, and then he goes after it. That's what he was doing when the bandits found him; he had come to a literal fork in the road and realized he has no idea where the hearse went and therefore couldn't find Beth. What did you think he was doing? And you didn't find it weird that Beth wasn't with him? lol

I don't know, I really felt this episode was pretty action packed. I mean Darryl, Sasha, and Maggie each killed at least half a dozen walkers apiece, and in pretty kick-ass fashion, IMO (Darryl was in a 10X10 room with a dozen walkers and killing them with mortician's tools like a scalpel and syringe, Maggie was going Paul Bunyan with a No Parking sign and writing notes with walker blood, and Sasha was clubbing/stabbing them with a combination homemade spear/baseball bat), not to mention the awesome plot twists of Beth getting kidnapped and Darryl joining up with bandits.
Sure, there were some slow, quiet parts of the episode, but they were few and far between. If the entire episode was just one solid hour of all the characters standing back-to-back and just chopping walker heads off and piling up bodies, that wouldn't be much of a show.

I guess I'm the happy medium between you and Fistk.
Fistk is fine with heavy character development and little to no action, you want all action all the time, and I can can tolerate the character development, as long as I get some walker slaughter along the way. LOL

Oh yeah I had forgotten about that...i guess I didn't really think about it...maybe I thought she was speeding off afraid? I dunno.

I'm a hater. I admit it and I'm ok with it. I'm very picky with what I like. I like the walking dead like I like my music. If you call it metal, it's gotta be METAL...I can't have this bullet for my valentine bullshit where there's 7 seconds of screaming and 2 minutes of EMO harmonizing...I want freaking brutal max cavalera gravel in your throat hardcore metal.

The Walking Dead - Page 10 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Walking Dead   The Walking Dead - Page 10 EmptyMon Mar 10, 2014 6:11 pm

I think those days are gone (in the Walking Dead I mean, not with metal). The days of straight-out marching through walker hoardes and bashing brains in with hammers and crowbars through the streets of Atlanta ended about half-way through season one. If the show is going to keep it's staying power without turning a bunch of weird corners (like mega-walkers or ally-walkers or new creatures like werewolf-walkers or giant walker-spiders), it needs to rely at least partially on character development. I'm not saying you yourself want to see a bunch of weird, ridiculous twists, but if we don't have character development to some degree, the show would have to burn hot and fast and end within the next season or two. How many seasons do you think the viewing public could tolerate fast-paced walker slaughter with no other plotlines whatsoever? The only way it would work is to do like I mentioned above and bring in some newer, bigger, meaner shit to kill, and that can get pretty over-the-top real fast. It's like this other show that I watch- True Blood on HBO. It was fantastic the first 3 or 4 seasons, because even though it was a vampire-based show with very little character development (everybody is sexy, and they all just fuck and kill), they were introducing some new elements that meshed really well with the plot. But after introducing the obvious supplementary characters you would expect to see in a vampire show (werewolves, witches, powerful ancient vampires), they started to really reach for the next big nemesis, and ended up with ridiculous creatures that made me go "Really? Come on....". And now that show is about to begin it's final season because there's nowhere left to go.

I think if we're going to be able to watch the Walking Dead for the long term, these little lulls of slow action, high character drama are a necessary evil.

I totally agree with what you're saying...refer to my post several up about why I like movies over tv series'...movies have finality and a definitive ending. Tv series have two choices, you either go way over the top to try to beat what you did last season and end up making people go "wtf is that all about...stupid, I'm done watching"...or you do the opposite, try to build the show on less entertaining things like lame drama and slooooow character development, which makes people go "wtf is that all about...stupid, I'm done watching". I guess IMO all tv series are doomed to eventually fail because of those two reasons.

Absolutely. Neither of those formulas can work forever. But with The Walking Dead, there's a lot of characters, so the director is at least going to try and milk each one for all it's worth, for better or worse. I'm guessing the show will end before we ever get to a point where the walkers are basically a non-factor and it's just a soppy soap opera. At least I hope so.

The Walking Dead - Page 10 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Walking Dead   The Walking Dead - Page 10 EmptyTue Mar 11, 2014 9:50 am

I agree with Trigg for sure on this one.

Firstly, I loved the episode.  Daryl using the gurney and surgical tools to fuck those walkers up was effing great.

Maggie fucking those walker up with the street sign, awesome!

I thought there was some really cool directing things that went down too.  Sasha was totally fucking annoying me with the lets just find a building thing.  That made no effing sense to me what-so-ever.  Ok you think that's what you should do, then say it, but if you get out voted then move on.  I mean why the fuck would you chose to be alone?  At the point just fucking off yourself.  But then they revealed it wasnt that she thought going to terminus was a bad idea, it was that she was scared to find out if Tyrese was dead or not.  So she choses to stay on her own.  She walks upstairs in that building and the way they shot it was great I thought.  I mean she was not there for more than 5 fucking seconds and you cuold see her come to the realization that she could not live like this forever.  Fighting fucking zombies in the fog every day would be better than sitting in an abandoned warehouse alone.  Pretty cool.

Beth getting kidnapped, wtf is going on?

Trigg probably is a happy medium between Sam and I, haha.  For the most part I love anything about the show.  But, just so we are clear, I did love the episode with Daryl and Beth two weeks ago, because I was finding shit out.  I like some of the development, because it gives me the feeling that it is leading to something and that builds tension in me.  BUT, I would not be happy if they sat around talking every show haha.  If they are revealing things or building to somethign ok.  If they are going to sit around every episode and play spin the bottle, not so much lol.

Funny bit of information (please dont take offense Sam, I love ya), but when I read Sam's posts now they sound like the Hulk in my head.
"Me no like talking only like smash!  No kiss only kill zombies!"
"Me no like gsp, not enough smash!"

haha...I don't take offense to that at all. That's actually exactly how I feel. I'm not really a deep thought kind of guy when it comes to entertainment....I like it for face value...it has to keep me engaged at all times or I get very bored very quickly. For example, you guys keep mentioning things that I didn't even notice...like your entire paragraph about Sasha...nope, don't remember any of that...at all. Maybe it's because I was bored with the episode and was on like #9 Guinness for the night and "mmmm Sam no see no smash...Sam bored...need more Guinness...Sam sleep"...but whatever, if it's not exciting it doesn't register. I have a very fast attention span, I hate reading because words in books bore me. I need tangible excitement.

The Walking Dead - Page 10 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Walking Dead   The Walking Dead - Page 10 EmptyTue Mar 11, 2014 2:34 pm

This thread just got like 5 times better.
LOL!

Anyway, back to the actual show.
Is anyone else actually a little glad in a morbid sort of way that Darryl is a bandit now? Ever since the first season he's kind of just been keeping his inner animal in check and playing nice as best he can. He's always been viewed as the bad-ass of the group, but he's also always been civilized and seemed like he was actively restaining himself. Now he's gonna have free reign to be Badass Darryl and do whatever the fuck he wants. I'm just curious how far he's going to take it before he decides it's gotten out of hand.

I don't know how in the fuck anyone is going to be able to rescue Beth. Only Darryl even knows she's alive, and even if he had any idea where the hell she might be, he's obviously not going to be granted a sabbatical from his new buddies to go looking for her. It's probably going to have to be a cop-out situation where Beth escapes right at the exact time a few of her old group members just happen to be in the immediate area of where she's being held captive.

And going back to the previous episode for just a second; OK, forgetting the fact that Beth's stupid ass just decided out of the blue that she wanted to go find booze and get drunk, how in the fuck was she able to sit there and drink a goddamn jar of moonshine as her FIRST DRINK EVER and show zero signs whatsoever of even having so much as a buzz?! You can get a solid buzz just from smelling real moonshine for Christ's sake, but this little 90lb virgin drinker can gulp a 16oz jar like a mountain man and seem perfectly lucid and sober? I mean even hillbilly Darryl was getting all emotional and breaking shit and crying like a sloppy drunk. I don't know, maybe she just can't "act" drunk or something, but the director should have told her to play it up or something. Or even better, actually gotten her drunk. That probably would have made her more tolerable, if nothing else.

I will be really interested to see who grabbed Beth. Could be someone the show made up most likely or it could be a group that was in the book and if it is it could be bad. I wont go into detail though.

And I am pretty sure as strange as it sounds for a show that has shown children getting eaten and the like that they had a bit of an issue with showing a teenager getting drunk. So I think they just kept it tame. I believe they shot it once with her acting much more loaded, but they were advised to scale it back.

Well then why introduce that storyline into the show? Why have Beth on a mission to get drunk for an entire episode if you have reservations about showing her acting drunk on screen? Seems kind of an ass-backward logic on the writer's part.
Nah, she's just a shitty actress. LOL!

I dont think it was the writers fault. From what I heard (and of course i cant find it now lol), is that they shot it and then the network or someone had an issue with it so they re-did it.

Fistk, I guess I'm just missing the logic on this one. So the censors have no problem with her swilling illegal moonshine that's probably between 170 and 190 proof, but they get a little touchy about her acting buzzed from it?
Or what about last season? They had no issue with Axel- a dirty, middle aged convict- trying to mack on her and get in her pants? That was OK?
I think these censors need to check their priorities. One of them probably has a personal issue against alcohol or something and is just pushing his personal opinions onto the show's production.

I really liked last nights episode. Not a tremendous amount of gore, but the one sister murdering the other then Carol murdering that sister...wow...brutal.

But going back to the drunk Beth thing and how someone read they can't show her drunk acting...they can show the brutalness of what the girl did to her sister, then what Carol did to the girl, but people get offended about a drunk teen.

This world is wussified.

Wow, I'm actually shocked. I literally said to myself after watching last night's episode "Sam is gonna hate this one". lol

But yeah, I thought it was pretty good. That girl was clearly fucked, but I certainly didn't see that coming!
It looks like things are starting to come together and loose ends are being tied up, which usually means something big is about to happen. With only two episodes left, I'm guessing next week's episode is going to be insane.
