- Now the group trying to unionize the casinos of the Ultimate Fighting Championship's co-owners wants to get the promotion's TV network and sponsors on its side.
In its latest step against the Fertitta brothers' mixed martial arts business, Culinary Workers Union Local 226 has penned a letter to Anheuser-Busch, calling on the beer company to pull its Bud Light sponsorship of UFC. The union wants Anheuser-Busch to stop its UFC affiliation and says the MMA promotion has "a history of tolerating homophobic conduct."
The letter cites statements by UFC President Dana White, TV commentator Joe Rogan, light heavyweight Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, middleweight Michael Bisping and heavyweight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
White has apologized in the past for using a word associated with anti-homosexual sentiments, and has informally admonished fighters for using the same term. The UFC president also spoke to Rogan about his use of certain words to criticize a female blogger for Yahoo Sports, although the TV analyst was not disciplined publicly.
The Culinary Workers Union Local 226 for years has opposed the business efforts Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta, whose properties include UFC and Station Casinos, a group of local hotel-casinos in Las Vegas. The union represents hospitality industry employees in Las Vegas and has been trying to get a foothold in Station, which is not a union shop.
As part of its campaign to put pressure on the Fertittas, the Culinary Union has tried to cut into their UFC business by going through government and political channels. Tactics include:
• Backing anti-MMA legislators in New York.
• Calling on the Federal Trade Commission to investigate UFC parent company Zuffa, which the union accuses of using monopolistic tactics to thwart competition from other promoters of mixed martial arts.
• Launching a website designed to highlight White's frequent use of vulgar language.
The letter to Anheuser-Busch is co-signed by officials of two Nevada organizations devoted to gay, lesbian and transgender issues, as well as a group affiliated with the local Democratic Party Source What in the fuckin hell... really? | My question is, what in the fuck does "unfitforchildren" have to do with the Culinary Union? Aside from the fact that they created the site. Typically when you want something done, you don't go and divide your attention between two completely separate causes. Ok so you're protesting UFC and begging their sponsors to not advertise with them, making shitty grass roots online petitions to attempt to stop the Fox deal.... gimme a fuckin break! What in the fuck does that have to do with your gripe, how in the fuck will this help your disgruntled cooks? Last I checked chefs/cooks/bartenders don't step in the fuckin octagon. Your fuckin problem is with Station and the way they treat workers. Which has absolutely dick to do with UFC.

| Some insight from Station workers. "The culinary union was protesting Station Casino's treatment of Latinos. Where is the union when it comes to the rights of it's own members? The union has created a situation where workers cannot receive health care benefits due to having to work 360 hours in a 3 month period. Something next to impossible for on call workers. Some however are only short a few hours yet cannot receive benefits, but still have to pay $40 a month in union dues while not being eligible for union benefits! The union is not addressing this, nor the plight of oncall workers. It just wants to unionize Station Casinos so that it can get $40 from all of the workers while coming up with more ways to deny benefits."
"How much are union bureaucrats making a month? Many union members are making under $1000 a month, have families to feed, spouses and children who need health care, and yet cannot receive any such benefits. Are the union leaders willing to live under those conditions? Where are the protests to guarantee more hours? Or lowering the requirement for health care benefits so that workers can get benefits!"

| The worst response the union can expect is the reaction of "WHO CARES?"
I support all unions in all labor situations ... collective efforts of the worker vs "the man" and all that. I even support the Culinary Union.... however regarding their anti-ufc campaign.... I don't really care.
Hey Local 226... tell me how this whole campaign is working for you? heh

| This is just getting ugly now. Like Chrom said, what does one have to do with the other? This is just blatant and outright attacking whenever and wherever possible. It's painfully obvious that the union is trying every avenue possible to smear the UFC, regrardless of what it has to do with their own personal vendetta.
I wouldn't be shocked if Dana and/or the Fertittas found a way to counter-sue these guys for slander.

This is f'd, as stated one issue has nothing to do with the other. It is a smear campaign and I love Chrom's comment on the union's practices on their benefits and most workers not getting them. Thanks union for protecting my $1000 a month job when I'm paying you almost 5% of my income in dues."
