LAS VEGAS -- Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has failed a second drug test administered by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

NSAC executive director Bob Bennett confirmed to ESPN.com on Tuesday that Silva, 39, failed his postfight urine test after a unanimous decision win against Nick Diaz at UFC 183 on Jan. 31.


Silva tested positive for the steroid drostanolone -- the same banned substance he tested positive for during an out-of-competition test taken on Jan. 9. Silva also tested positive for anti-anxiety medication Oxazepam and Temazepam, which is used to treat sleep deprivation.

In total, Silva (34-6) submitted to three NSAC tests. He tested positive for drostanolone and androstane on Jan. 9. He then provided a clean sample on Jan. 19 followed by a second failed test on Jan. 31.

Silva, who had never tested positive for a banned substance, initially faced a nine-month suspension for his first offense. Bennett did not know whether the commission would increase that length because of a second failed test.

See, but now I'm even more confused than before.

The consensus (at least here) seems to be that he has been on roids all along, and got nailed this time because this is the first time he has ever been tested out of competition, and therefore has been able to cycle off in time in the past with no one being the wiser. As much as I hate to admit it, there's logic in that theory.
But now this.
He tests positive in his post-fight test.
So if he's been on steroids all along, wouldn't he have the sense and years of practice to cycle off this time instead of testing positive post-fight?
The out-of-competition failure would make sense, like I said, but it just doesn't make sense that he would suddenly just forget how to cycle off and get popped for roids post-fight for the first time ever.

If anything, this positive test makes the picture cloudier with this whole situation, not clearer. I wouldn't be surprised to hear Silva admit that he took steroids this one time, for the first time, because of his busted leg. That makes the most sense with the information we have at this point.

I don't know man it looks bad to me.

He got tested once ever out of competition and failed it, thats enough for me. The fact that he also failed his post fight test just makes it worse for me not better. I know you want to believe he hasn't been doing it and the fact that he has never failed a post fight test until now makes it easier for him to say it was just this one time, but I am on the side of cheaters not getting the benefit of the doubt.

Just like the Andy Pettite thing in baseball. He says his entire career he never did steroids. Then he gets named in the report as being one of the players who did it. They ask him how long her had been doing it for. He asks what the report says and they tell him the report has eye witnesses seeing him do it for a 4 week span. He says, "Yes i did it for 4 weeks only" lol

Well of course I don't want to believe it, but honestly, I was trying to be realistic, because like you said; the first time he got tested out of competition he failed. That's pretty telling.
But long time users know how to cycle off in time, so I don't know.
I'm fully prepared to accept the fact that he's a longtime user if that's the case. I mean I'm a fan, but he's not my dad or anything. Lol! But I don't know, it just doesn't seem to add up.

Maybe once he got tested out of competition and knew he failed he said fuck it and kept juicing up until the fight lol.
