Rousimar Palhares likened to Tarzan by MMA Pundit

Rousimar Palhares was likened to Tarzan in a recent radio interview exchange between Dan Miller’s training partner Billy Dee Williams and long-served MMA radio host Bob Carson.

The interview, for the ’Carson’s Corner’ radio show, took in a number of subjects before landing on Palhare’s win over Miller at UFC 134 last month, which was notable mostly for a bizarre moment when Palhares suddenly raised his arms in victory and walked away from Miller to climb the cage and celebrate.

Unfortunately for Palhares, the fight wasn’t over and he had to carry on, eventually going the distance and winning a clear decision.

“In my opinion, I think Palhares was trying to take the easy way out. He had Dan in a bit of trouble but Dan isn't going to quit. For him to put his hands up and walk away [is significant to me,]” said Williams.

“For me to stop, the ref has to put his hands on me and physically stop me. I'm going to keep punching until you ARE quitting or until the ref puts his hands on me.”

Host Carson then chimed in to observe that if Miller had rose to his feet and “cold-cocked Palhares when he was celebrating, I think that would be a legitimate win. Some people say that's unsportsmanlike, but you know what? It's his fault.

“He's lucky he didn't get hit. Palhares strikes me as an incredibly weird person, almost like Tarzan, he doesn't understand human society fully. He doesn't mean any harm, like when he hurt Drwal with the heel hook.”

Williams concurred, “He's definitely a weird guy. That's 100 per cent right. I wouldn't have been mad if Dan went and drop kicked him off the top of the cage.”

Palhares was actually raised in extreme poverty on hard-to-work farmland on the edge of a jungle in his native Brazil. He was the subject of an extensive feature in a recent print issue of Fighters Only, where we learned that he had to sleep under a bridge when he first moved to Rio de Janeiro looking for jiu jitsu lessons, because he was so poor.

Why are they even talking still talking about this? It's not like Paul Harris did anything wrong. Miller should consider himself lucky that Paul Harris jumped and celebrated, otherwise he would have been TKO'd instead of just beaten by decision.

I think this Lando Calrissian guy is just sore about his training partner getting beat, and that other guy ought to get back his meds, because he is waaaay too angry about something that shouldn't be making him angry.
