Kenny Florian agrees with Nick Diaz: GSP is scared to fight Anderson Silva

It would come as no surprise to most MMA fans that Nick Diaz thinks Georges St-Pierre is scared to fight Anderson Silva. The bad blood there is old news. But you might be surprised to hear that UFC commentator Kenny Florian agrees with the Stockton bad boy’s recently stated opinion that he’s fighting Silva because St-Pierre won’t. “I actually think he’s right,” Florian said Wednesday on “UFC Tonight” on FOX Sports 1. In January at UFC 183, Diaz, a former Strikeforce welterweight champ, faces off with ex-middleweight kingpin Silva, who returns from an extended injury layoff due to a badly broken leg suffered in a title rematch with champ Chris Weidman. Diaz (26-9 MMA, 7-6 UFC) recently told MMAFighting.com that St-Pierre (25-2 MMA, 19-2 UFC) could have taken his place, but “he didn’t take the fight. He could barely say two things and he’d get the fight, just like that. But he didn’t want the fight.” The comment followed St-Pierre’s statement that Diaz had made a mistake at agreeing to fight Silva (33-6 MMA, 16-2 UFC) in his natural class instead of at a catchweight, where he once had contemplated a superfight. Diaz, of course, has had no love for St-Pierre before or after their March 2013 title fight, which ended in a dominant decision win for “Rush.” In addition to blasting St-Pierre’s opinion, he insinuated again that St-Pierre used performance-enhancing drugs. Florian, though, considers the now-retired St-Pierre the greatest champion in UFC history. He considers St-Pierre’s fear of Silva a healthy one. “Any champion or fighter always wants the odds to be in their favor,” Florian said. “For him to go up in weight at 185 pounds and fight a guy like Anderson Silva who many consider the greatest of all time, well, I think it’s a smart decision by Georges. Georges wanted to fight more at a catchweight of 175 (pounds), maybe even 170 pounds, where it would be in his favor. wrote:

Ok maybe I was a "little" hard on Kenny. I read the Headline before the article. They really didn't have too much to do with each other but, hey, Kenny, you did retire a little too soon without much of a record to jump so close to another guys trash talking.
