| Just wanted to make a discussion topic ahead of time for this event. I miss discussing the events with you guys and always mean to make a topic after the event ,but tend to be too fucking tired.
Anyway, I've got some predictions ahead of time:
I think Aldo will beat Lamas, Barao will beat Faber (although I'm expecting it to be at least slightly more competitive) (Team Nova União FTW). All rational and logic says that Overeem should wreck Mir like he did Lesnar or Rogers, however the other rational and irrational side of me says Overeem will give a movieesque beating to Mir and Mir will somehow comeback and knock him out.

| did anyone see the makdessi fight? agree with rogan, that was a completely uneducated decision. these judges have no clue what fighting is. | |

| Mir should retire now. He got pummelled. I gave him a chance when he pulled guard the first time, but after the 2nd or 3rd time, I gave up all hope.
The Trujillo/Varner fight was fucking awesome!!!! I can't stand Varner, but he put on a great fight and deserves respect for pulling his weight in an outright brawl fest of a fight. I honestly thought both guys were about to be floored like 6 times each in that fight. Trujillo caught him big time in the end, but both guys deserve credit for the fight they put on.
I'm also not a Faber fan, but that fight was absolutely stopped early. I mean lets be honest; Faber got rocked bad twice in succession, but he was clearly not out. He probably wouldn't have made it out of the round, but he was clearly defending himself itelligently at the time of the stoppage. Barao might likely would have won, but you gotta give Faber a fighting chance at that point in the fight.

| Agree, that Varner/Trujillo fight was great. Mir got pummeled and now has 4 straight losses. Makdessi got screwed.... however, let's be honest. It's not like Makdessi ever took a chance on taking the decision away from the judges. I honestly don't feel bad for him. I normally root for shitty, shitty judging just in the hopes that guys will try to finish more often. The only time this backfires is when there is an all-out war where one guy was clearly better and gets the loss.
What the hell happens with Faber now. He is 0-6 in title fights since his last fight with a belt (WEC).

| Faber will fight one-to-two times and then be given another title shot. That is the formula, and it will continue until he wins a title. | |

| Lots of talk of an early stoppage. Watch him get another shot... especially if Barao's next opponent pulls out with injury again. | |

| well, if faber keeps being the second best, he should get another shot.
and honestly, varner/trujillo fight was not that impressive. yeah it was exciting in a bar fight sort of way but when it became wild it was just that, a bar fight. there is a difference between controlled chaos and reckless abandon.

| I don't think anybody was saying Varner/Trujillo was impressive, just really entertaining and fun to watch. There's a big difference between a strategically great fight and an entertainingly great fight. | |

| to be honest, i was not impressed because all the while i was thinking that this is exactly what dana is trying to make out of ufc. just bleed for the fans fights, so the lay person buys the pay-per-view. its not the direction it should go, i think. if this fight happened while the sport, in general, was promoting the the best of martial arts (as it was meant to be) i'd be more exited watching it. i remember old school fights, a lot of them in pride, that werent that skillful, but were awesome. its because the general idea was to see who is the most skillful | |

| Faber needs to leave Alpha Male. i know its the camp he started but he has plateaued and is not being challenged. He should go train with Firas at Tri-Star or with Duke Roufus and be challenged more by elite strikers that are bigger than he is. | |

| I only watched the faber fight from a crappy video of a TV screen...but I think I'm the odd one out everywhere I look because I think it was a good stoppage. Faber was getting absolutely HANDLED. He was dropped 3 times in succession...one of those times put him flat out face and hands down. Then finally he was turtled up getting hammer fists dropped on him. Thumbs up or no thumbs up it's the ref's job to not allow these guys to end up with jelly brains. Good stoppage IMO. | |

| I had no problem with the stoppage. I would have done the same thing. It's just that in slow motion, every one of those hammer fists were blocked and then Faber jumping up in protest immediately after the stoppage didn't help. Although, it was just one of those things where Faber was not going to recover, and was just getting mauled. | |

| It's really sad what has become of Faber. I mean, he's a great fighter and has gotten some great wins, but he was one of those guys years ago that I think many of us said...myself included...that "if Faber came to the UFC he would rule the division"...the guy can't win a title to save his life.... | |

| Minor tear, early in camp. I'm sure Barao- as well as nearly every fighter- fought with a minor injury suffered in training.
I know he took the fight on short notice and his camp was short to begin with, but it's not like he completely tore it days before the fight or something. Regardless, at least he was classy enough to not bring it up right after the fight.

I dont think its that crazy to enjoy a good brawl, but still enjoy technical fights as well.

| I was actually at these fights. We had an awesome time thanks to pre-fight partying and lots of beer, but holy shit be glad the prelim fights were not aired. They were beyond awful. That pisses me off more than anything else. If you are fighting on the prelims or earlier you cant play it safe. If you do you deserve to go. They were beyond awful.
And the Faber fight was DEFINITELY stopped early. He is one of the best recoverers in the game and was totally fine. Not to mention that Barao was hammer fisting his shoulder and not his head. TERRIBLE job by Herb.

| Yeah I think the sprit on a legit stoppage was violated in the Faber fight. Faber was in serious trouble, and likely wouldn't have made in out of the round anyway (especially since it was Barao who was trying to finish him), but the spirit of a ref stopping a fight is that he's only supposed to do it if a fighter can't intelligently defend himself. That wasn't the case here. Like I said, Faber was in no way fine and perfectly OK, but he wasn't so far gone that he needed referee assistance, either. You gotta let that play out a little longer. Let the guy take his beating like the pro fighter that he is.
