- If Chris Weidman serves up and upset special this Saturday at UFC 162, which a growing number of MMA enthusiasts are starting to believe it won’t be THAT big of an upset anymore, UFC president Dana White has promised reigning middleweight king Anderson Silva (pictured) will be granted an immediate rematch.
“I’d do the rematch the next fight,” White on Monday told MMAjunkie.com. “Guy hasn’t lost in the UFC ever, has beat everybody. He loses that fight, he’s the guy for a rematch if he wants it.”
White’s announcement isn’t too shocking. If anyone deserves an instant sequel, it is the Octagon’s most decorated champion.
Silva is perfect through his past 17 fights, with his last 16 coming under the UFC’s watch. The 38-year-old owns a UFC record 10 successful title defenses. http://www.5thround.com/149044/dana-white-anderson-silva-will-get-immediate-rematch-if-he-loses/ IDK about this. If it's a close war and it's a decision or there is some controversy... sure But, lets say Andy gets just fuckin pwnd! (unlikely but still) Weidman comes in and just GnP's the shit outta him and wins in the opening rounds, finishing him... Can you really justify giving him an immediate rematch?

| Absolutely. I'd be pissed if he didn't get an immediate rematch. There have been champions with MUCH MUCH less time as a champion that get immediate rematches...let alone the all time most dominant champion and fighter the UFC has ever seen. I'd venture to say that Anderson Silva has drawn more PPV purchases than most fighters out there. I for one have ONLY purchased PPV events in the recent few years that Anderson was fighting on. Without question regardless if he loses he deserves an immediate rematch. | |

| I agree with samger2 on this one. for some one who stood on top of the moutain as long as he has he would deserve it. even if he was dominated. you could say the same about cain and JDS 1. Jds just cleaned cains clock and the 2nd outing was a much differnt story. granted cain didnt get an imedate title shot but cain didnt have silvas standing either. | |

| Bah! Garbage! Immediate rematch after getting RAPED is BS. I don't care who you are, what you have done or what your rank is. If your last fight wasn't even close, you shouldn't just be entitled to a rematch... especially for a title. But, Chris already said he is cool with it and it will be an insane cash cow of a rematch. So I fully understand why the UFC would do it. I just think entitling someone to a rematch like that is really daft. | |

| Of course he should be entitled to an immediate rematch. He has earned that right ten times over with his resume. I think it would actually be very disrespectful if he wasn't granted an immediate rematch, becuase if any fighter should have that owed to him, it's Anderson Silva. GSP and Jon Jones would be given the same treatment, no question. | |

| Agree with Chrom. It all depends on the fight. If it's a flash KO or freak dr. stoppage from a cut... absolutely. Even if it's a good war where both guys look like they've been in a fight.
However, if Weidman goes out there gets TDs at will and GnPs the bejesus out of Silva for 4 rounds and eventually gets a bloody Munoz-like" stoppage, why should Silva get an immediate rematch?
However, if that happens, Silva probably just retires so it's a moot point.

Quite simply, because he is Anderson Silva and he deserves it. That's really the only way I see it. He's earned it.

Except it wasn't... GSP had to fight twice before earning another shot and that was a clear fluke loss.

| I just don't like the idea of telling any person they will have to beat the champ twice in a row to stay champ. Yet, if you lose, you get dropped dong a few rungs.
I don't subscribe to the ideaolog of just because someone else got to do something stupid, then so should I.

| I see both sides of the coin here but im inclined to lean to the side giving him the rematch if he loses.....hes earned it as much as anybody has imo.....he's cleaned house in the mw div and beat former lhw champ forrest....if anybody deserved it....ever....it would be Anderson..... | |

| Good, he's been so fucking dominant. I've always been in favor and believe that champions should get immediate rematches. Although I can see the argument when coming to guys that haven't defended the belt. | |
