- Fedor Emelianenko is the most accomplished heavyweight MMA has ever
known, but he may be facing a must-win situation this Saturday against Dan Henderson. However, even if Emelianenko is able to snap his two-fight skid, UFC president Dana White claims “The Last Emperor” has found himself in a lose-lose predicament.
“Listen, I’m not out to hurt Fedor or hurt any fighter,” White told SI.com of Strikeforce’s prized possession. “People ask me my opinion, I give you my opinion on what I think about a fighter. I’m in the fight business and I think that I know a little bit about the fight business. I’ve been in it since I was 19.
“Sometimes I’m right, and sometimes I’m wrong … I thought the Fedor hype was ridiculous.”
Although Emelianenko owns a dominant 31-3 (1 NC) resume, White has never been his biggest supporter. Perhaps that’s because all of his accolades were achieved outside of White’s Octagon.
Some may have thought White would’ve hopped on the Emelianenko express after Zuffa, LLC purchased Strikeforce this past March, but the promoter still can’t seem to convince himself to jump on the heavyweight’s bandwagon.
“If I’ve got to still give Fedor his digs, my dig would be, ‘Dude, you’re fighting a 185-pounder.’ Henderson’s got a great chin, he’s durable, he’s got good wrestling, he can stay out of submissions, and all the great things I can say about Henderson, but Henderson weighs 185 pounds,” White added.
“So I actually think this fight, as far as Fedor is concerned, it’s a lose-lose for him. If he knocks out Dan Henderson, he knocks out a 185-pounder. If he gets knocked out, he just got knocked out by a 185-pounder.”
5th Round Dana is right, what does Fedor gain from this fight? Jack shit! He's fighting a legend and he's a legend... I get that... but Hendo is the only one that has anything to really gain from this fight. | |

| He has a win to gain from it -- and with that win comes momentum and the mental fortitude to believe you can still whoop some serious ass. | |
