- Despite begging UFC president Dana White to make his next title defense against that “punk”
Alistair Overeem, Junior dos Santos (Pictured) will instead put his heavyweight hardware up for grabs against Cain Velasquez on December 29th.
White confirmed the rematch following Saturday’s UFC 150 press conference.
Dos Santos easily disposed of former two-time champ Frank Mir at UFC 146 to post his first successful title defense. Prior to the 2ndRound TKO victory, dos Santos put Velasquez to sleep in just 64 seconds to capture the crown in November.
The 27-year-old owns a 15-1 professional record and is perfect through his last 10 scraps.
Velasquez was also victorious in the same Memorial Day weekend card. He destroyed Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in the opening round of their one-sided shootout to earn his shot at redemption.
The only blemish on Velasquez’s 11-fight resume came at the hands, or should I say right hand, of 2Santos.
The 265-pounders were supposed to rekindle their rivalry at UFC 152, but the sequel was scrapped for undisclosed reasons.
Although White didn’t confirm a location, the UFC is notorious for hosting their New Year’s Eve weekend shows in Las Vegas. http://www.5thround.com/125480/junior-dos-santos-defends-ufc-title-against-cain-velasquez-on-new-years-eve-weekend/ Talk about unearned title shots....

| Maybe.... except there really isn't anyone else. I could maybe see an argument for Werdum by default (who also got KO'd by Dos Santos).
A look at the top 10.
Junior Dos Santos (UFC Champ) Cain Velasquez (well, he's the consensus next in line) Daniel Cormier (Strikeforce Employee.. fighting Frank Mir next) Fabricio Werdum (Last two losses were to the best heavyweights on the planet... two wins in a row against Nelson/Russow) Roy Nelson (2-3 last five fights) Has never beat a top 10. Mark Hunt (looked good against Kongo, but the only significant thing he's done in 7 years.) Travis Browne (Has looked decent against mid level guys. Big Foot Silva will be his best test so far... still not a top 10 guy) Frank Mir (Dos Santos' latest victim) Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (training partner and likely still recovering from having his arm ripped off by Mir) Josh Barnett (coming off a one sided loss to Cormier)
Overeem (unranked since he was suspended. Maybe the fight most fans want to see, but can't blame dana for feeding him a turd after he ruined a PPV for him).
