| Subject: Anderson Silva’s Manager calls Middleweight Division “Amateurs” and “a Big Joke” Fri Jul 27, 2012 11:14 am | |

- I ran across an interesting article this morning from TATAME.com. Anderson Silva’s manager, Jorge Guimaraes had some things to say about the rest of the middleweight division. When asked about potential challenges from Chris Weidman, Tim Boetsch and Alan Belcher, Guimaraes didn’t mince words. “That’s a big joke,” he said. “Everybody saw that it worked for Chael, and he got really famous with that, and now everybody wants to be on the spotlight.”
So apparently, none of those fighters are a good challenge for the long-time champ, at least according to one of his closest advisers. So who then, should be The Spider’s next fight? Perhaps no one, continued Guimaraes. “No opponent makes sense for Anderson at this moment.” No one? That’s a bold statement, and depressing for fans of Silva.
“Unless we do a catchweight against Georges St. Pierre,” he added. “They didn’t offer the fight, but he’s the only one that could do a super fight. Anderson has the biggest paycheck in the UFC, and you can’t promote an event with these amateur kids that are coming up now.”
Silva has entered the stage of his career that he could probably refuse any fight he doesn’t like and Dana White and company would concede. It appears, at least according to Guimaraes, that fighting a top contender isn’t good enough for Silva. He wants a marketable fight and the thought is that none of the current middleweights fall into that category.
Sure, a GSP fight would be huge, but the likelihood of that is pretty slim, especially in the near future. St-Pierre is currently rehabbing an injury and is then committed to Carlos Condit. source What a fuckin douchebag! Thats insanely insulting to the whole division. I think Silva needs to tell Guimaraes to bite his tongue, because this reflects poorly on a champion.

| Pretty easy for this guy to call out the whole division.... when he doesn't have to fight them. | |

2nd that for a divison who has a bunch of so called amatuers he sure is very picky and very much on the reserve about who fights his fighter. If this is the case then fighting the likes of weidman,Bisping,Vitor,Belcher, boestch shouldnt be a problem and should take on any of these fights in a drop of a hat then and shouldnt say no to any of them.

| I don't understand the marketing comment by Anderson's team.
I could totally understand (given Anderson's contract) that DANA may only want a highly marketable fight (rather than the most sensical fight). However, Anderson gets paid the same no matter who he fights (maybe a small amount more if he has some PPV bonus built into his contract).

| Well, if the whole division is worthless and the only fight that makes sense is one with zero title implications... why continue to hold the title? We need Anderson to speak his mind on this IMO so we know where the whole camp sits, rather than just his mgr. | |

| I'm sure he's sitting at his BB'Q drinking beer and waiting for Chael to show up and probably can't be bothered to keep his "camp" in line. | |

| A side note, that remark may not have been the best move in the world. Even though Silva himself didnt say it the fact is most of the middle weight divison is going to have some serious matches lit under there asses over this comment and could be putting a big bulls eye on Silva. Plus getting these contenders pissed off to the point that may say screw it and dont give Silva the respect in the ring that most did. chael didnt and look how close he came to doing it.
I think most people repect his fighting to much to engage with him full on but remarks like those could put a lot of fighters cautions to the wind and go for broke. i just dont think calling the whole divison amauters is going to win him any fans and when you really think about if they really do believe this then what does that say for Silvas legacey then? how great of champ can he really be if he is only beating up amauters as they say?
