| - Quote :
- It took Dana White 75 minutes to convince Anderson Silva to fight Chael Sonnen in Las Vegas oppose to Rio de Janeiro and this was the reason for the press conference delay. This was reported by Gustavo Noblat on oglobo.globo.com .
The talk between Dana White and Silva was heated initially and Anderson had refused to change the venue for the rematch. The bout was scheduled to take place in Stadium Engenhao and would have been the UFC’s biggest show to date with 80,000 tickets being sold.
“There wouldn’t have been enough hotel rooms,” White said as the date clashed with international events in the city.
Anderson was reported to have said “He deserves to taught a lesson here, I owe this to my people” to which Dana replied “If there is no way how to make the event in a stadium, it has to be in Las Vegas,”
Dana went on to explain that Las Vegas has the structure to promote the UFC from one day to the next. He also stated to Silva the appeal the bout would have in the US & how it takes place in the same week of the celebrations for independence day.
He also commented on the effect pay per view sales would have with the event and guaranteed a good percentage of the pay per view sales to Anderson.
After lots of discussion Anderson asked what was required of him to which Dana replied “I want you go to Las Vegas and perform well, make it a great fight.” it was then Anderson went on to accept and said “If it has to be like this, I will beat this guy wherever. He deserves a lesson.”
Dana was delighted with Anderson and went on to say he was the “Perfect UFC ambassador in Brazil” and referred to him as “The best fighter ever made in MMA – today everybody talks about Jon Jones but for me you are the best by far,”
Anderson now blames UFC’s Brazilian investment partner Eike Batista & his company IMX for the failure to organise efficiently (IMX is UFC partner and promotes the fights of the UFC in Brazil) Anderson thinks they did not understand the size of the event & did not have sufficient competence to make it.
Andersons managers are frustrated by the bout being moved to the US but recognise it as a good deal.
“Anderson knows this partnership with UFC is for life,” Jorge Guimaraes told Noblat. “There are no motives to get into friction with the event, so we accepted to fight in Vegas. We don’t go against the UFC, we go on the same side – after all, Anderson is its employee.” source SEVENTY FUCKIN FIVE MINUTES!? REALLY!? When your boss says "hey we got a venue change" you don't sit there and make a fuckin stink about it, you say "Where to boss?" Fuckin Silva, my distaste for him grows more and more.

| Heh yup .... unless you make your boss a GAZILLION FREAKING DOLLARS! Then your boss says ... "I really need to lick yer balls so you will keep making us soooooo much money I will be able to buy a time machine and go back in time with all my money and retire at 12 years of age."
If anyone should be getting crapped on is has to be Sonnen. His big mouth could potentially have gotten people killed, he ruined what could have been the biggest UFC gate ever and now we won't get to see big bottomed Brazillian chicks on the beach wearing only butt floss for a swim suit.

| Hmmm, lets not forget the abomination in Abu Dahbi, being exposed by Sonnen, the drug use in Brazil against Okami.... in the past 2 years I would have to say Silva has been as much trouble as he has been good. But yeah I guess when you make the biz a ton of money you get coddled a bit. I suppose I can understand that. Doesn't make me like him anymore though | |

| He's rightfully pissed about this. He was going to be given the chance to beat Sonnen in front of all the people Sonnen has constantly insulted, and now it's being taken away from him. Sonnen talked a ton of shit about everything Brazilian related and said he would destroy Anderson in front of all of his people, and now he doesn't have to back it up.
I would be pissed too, and would probably need an entire weekend of convincing.

| Like I've said before, when you're the Champ and the #1 contender is offered to you; you should say "Where and when?" not "Only here, on my terms or I get insulted and cry." Everyone says tons of shit about BJ and Diaz whining but if Silva does... "meh" But again $$ is $$ and Andy knows he is worth plenty apparently... just seems a bit Mayweatherish to me.... | |

Well that's because you hate Silva; of course you feel that way. Kidding. But seriously, this wouldn't even be an issue if Chael's mouth hadn't written a check his ass couldn't cash. You guys keep saying "Chael's just having fun" and "he's just trying to get a reaction". Well, this is a perfect example of what can happen when a guy doesn't know when to shut his mouth. From the article you posted, Silva did ultimately say "it doesn't matter where, I'll beat him anyway". He didn't say he wouldn't fight him. He was simply trying with all his heart to keep the fight in Brazil. But he justifiably is pissed that this fight in Brazil got scrapped. You really can't blame him for that. It was a once in a lifetime fight for him, and now it's not happenning because of some BS.

| I think Anderson was actually justified he wanted to beat Sonnen in front of his people. Besides that just imagine the atmoshphere the fight would have had in Brazil, oh well I'm still excited for this fight. | |

| Yeah, the crowd atmosphere would have been legendary for that fight, rivaling Couture/Sylvia. But I agree; I'm still excited to see it regardless.
I just wish Dana would have made Chael nut up and do what he said he would do. I don't want to see the guy get killed or anything like that, but because of his endless shit-talking, it only seems fair that he puts his money where his mouth is.

| It has nothing to do with Chael, there is a huge U.N. type thing... how does Sonnen get called out for that? | |

| Yeh it's a big a$$ United Nations Conference going on 3 to 4 days on sustainability and future development yada yada yada.
Anderson has a right to be pissed... but 75 minutes is a little too excessive lol.

| 75 minutes isnt that long....ive sat in meetings that last hours......less than an hour and half to make some decisions and change some plans isnt that bad, but hey....haters gonna hate!
also wouldnt you be a bit upset if you were going to go to work down the road from your house or even in the same state and then last minute(ish) your told you have to fly a day away and work in a whole other country....not to mention that the new location is more favorable to your opponent......
He has every right to be upset and less than an hour and half to make those arrangements isnt that bad at all!

| The whole UN thing is a bit of a red Herring.... They plan those things two years in advance. You'd have to be a super-taard to not be able to plan around that. | |

| You guys are really gonna play the "No room at the inn" card?!
Please...
They're still having a PPV that night in the same place. Nothung changed except the main event. They changed the main event because of Chael's mouth. Chael talked a bunch of shit and now is not safe in Brazil.
Come on; You know what's going on. It's ridiculous to deny it.

| I have no problem with Silva so this isn't a hate thing, but I agree with Chrom a little bit. These guys are so fucking spoiled anymore that they think they have a right to do whatever they want. There are people that would give their right arm to fight in the UFC, much less make millions of dollars to do so. And Anderson does make millions. It's a location change. He didn't ask you to have a grappling only match or to force his wife to be a ring girl or something. Show up and do your job. | |

| Well like I said; this is (was) a once in a lifetime fight for Silva. He was gonna get to fight his arch rival- a man who has publicly insulted Silva and all other Brazilians on several occasions- in Brazil surrounded by his fans and countrymen, the very same people who Chael talked a ton of shit about. And now it's not happening because of total BS.
On top of that, people seem to be jumping to the conclusion that Silva first said no, and then it took 75 minutes to talk him back into it. That doesn't sound to me like what happened. It sounds like Silva spent 75 minutes trying to plead his case. There's nothing with that, IMO.
