Dan Hardy on Matt Hughes; "Bloodthirsty kill freak"

So I figured this would get some debate going.....

The British born fighter first ran afoul of Hughes last year when the former champion posted pictures on Twitter of his latest hunting trip where he killed a bobcat. The pictures spurned a lot of responses both positive and negative for Hughes’ hunting for sport, and his response was pretty firm on how he felt about it all.

“Me and my brother love to shoot cats!” wrote Hughes on his Twitter page. “If you don’t like seeing dead animals, stop following me. I’m not even going to try and educate you PETA idiots.”

Hardy obviously fell on the side of the people that had a problem with Hughes’ hunting habits, and responded in kind.

“Look at what I killed. Aren’t I the man? This is the only thing I have found that cures my impotence,” Hardy wrote. “There is no justification for what he does. Shooting a wild cat for fun is a joke. I don’t have a problem for hunting if there is a purpose for it. I have never read anywhere being overran by bobcats though.”

Hardy went as far as asking UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta for a shot at Hughes when he returned to fighting in 2012, but now that he’s matched up with Duane “Bang” Ludwig at UFC 146, it’s obvious Hardy’s wish was not granted.

Still, Hardy would love to get a shot at Hughes before the longtime champion calls it a career, and judging by his recent comments, there’s no love lost.

“I would love to figure that out, that blood thirsty kill freak. I can’t stand the dude,” Hardy told MMAWeekly Radio recently.

Despite his extreme distaste for Hughes personally, Hardy point out that he respects what the former collegiate wrestler did with his MMA career. It’s hard to deny the multi-time welterweight champion his due credit for what he did in the cage, regardless of personal feelings.

I like Hardy but... STFU dude! Hunting isn't illegal, in fact I would guess that Matt shot the cat on his farm land. In which case the cat is a predatory threat to chickens, pets and livestock. People shoot Racoons for sport as well... is it just because its a cat that people get up in arms?

You're under the assumption that he did it for the safety of his property, and I am under the assumption that he goes out of his way to shoot animals. Let's just make sure we're clear on that.

That's what I have a problem with; these dipshits who are all proud of themselves and taking pictures with shit-eating grins on their faces (see above) because they took the life of an animal for no other reason than because they enjoy it.

I'm against people who kill for the sake of killing. I don't care if it's shooting wild bobcats or stomping on frogs. If you go out of your way to track down and kill an animal for no other reason than because you take pleasure in it, then you're a fucking loser and should be ashamed of yourself.

Oh and the Triggerman thing is a long story. It has nothing to do with guns. Some of my friends gave me the nickname when I was about 17 or so. It's kind of a metaphor, like the one who takes action is the Triggerman; the one who will pull the trigger in certain situations.

This is not that.... this is chicken shit killing at distance of an animal that didn't even see it coming, for no other reason than making yourself believe you gotta a big dick... that's not hunting! In Canada there is a huge industry for Rich Yanks coming up to "bag" trophy wildlife to hang on their "look at how big my balls are wall". Thats bullshit and that's what Hughes is doing and that's not hunting.

If you are a true "sport hunter" then go out and kill your prey with a stick or even a big knife, don't shoot it from 400 - 500 yards with a huge rifle and a bigger scope. I'd have more respect for Hughes if he gave that cat a chance and took him on under the Unified Rules of MMA. Heh.... that cat would rip Hughes to pieces.

Ok, fair enough, I personally don't care either way unless they are poaching, hunting illegal game or doing things disgustingly and leaving rot and what not. Trophy hunting is what it is I suppose. But is that really a valid reason for one UFC fighter to call out another.... It just seems like a bit of a reach... and IDK too PC for my taste I suppose...

I agree with Chrom. Trophy hunting isn't my thing...and even though I don't find a reason to justify what Hughes and his brother do, it has absolutely NOTHING to do with the UFC or his MMA career. IMO calling this into play and finding it as a reason to have beef is more of a bitch move on Hardy's part than the fact of Hughes being a trophy hunter.

Only thing Hardy will do to Matt Hughes is have an opinion. Hardy vs. Hughes sucks anyways and Hardy just wants an easy fight to get into the W column.

Focus on Duane and forget Hughes.

But you guys gotta realize that Hardy did in fact make it very clear in that article that he admires and respects Hughes as a fighter. So it's not like he is just outright blasting Hughes on all levels.

Yeah I would think if Hughes is anywhere near retiring, he's not gonna be looking to fight guys like Hardy. He's probably got a few names in his mind that he wants to end on, and Hardy surely doesn't fit into that group.

I have no problem with legal hunting.
Personally I'd have no interest in hunting something I wasn't going to eat, but that's just me.

100% agree, hunting is not a sport. It is a one sided shoot to kill game. now if the animals could shoot back i would call it a sport. Sorry but i think hunters are more cowards than they are men. but thats just my 2 cents.

i think it would be the opposite, with as easy as it has been for hueghs to get ko'ed lately, i see a round 1 knock out for hardy.

I agree....unfortunately I see a first round TKO for Hardy.

If Hughes were to continue to be of the belief that he is suddenly a striker- like has been the case in his last couple of fights- I would have to agree that Hardy would probably drop him hard.
