| Subject: Dany Lauzon, Tyson Chartier, and More “Premier FC 7″ Fighter Interviews –UMASS Amherst Tue Nov 29, 2011 9:33 am | |
| - Quote :
- Premier FC, one of New England's best mixed martial arts promotions and arguably the best promotion in Western Massachusetts, barrels it's way into the Mullins Center this Saturday (December 3rd) for some of the year's best fight action!
If all you want for the holidays are some hard-hitting fights, Premier has you covered. This card is "awesome," "impressive," "one of the best," are just some of the comments we've heard through local MMA buzz. Rightfully flaunting fighters such as UFC vets Dan Lauzon & Ricardo Funch, a Bellator vet, M-1 Global Japan vet, and local powerhouses, this night could be considered the best-ever event that has projected a primarily college student attendance.
As if the great fight line-up wasn't enough, Premier decided to make the tickets for this event only $12.00 for students. That price is unheard of in the local fight scene, with most promotions averaging a declining price of $30.00-$77.00 per ticket, (for the same action mind you).
We caught up with a few of Premier FC 7's top talent, and they wanted to speak out to their fans:
UFC Vet & Prospect | Record of 15-4 | Fighting out of East Bridgewater, MA|
Registered Fighter Back-story: Dany Lauzon is a 23 year old fighter who carries a big name in New England, and around the United States. Being a three-time UFC veteran makes him dangerous for anyone throwing his name around. Seemingly a submission king, Dan is also very dangerous on his feet, finishing well over 5 of his impressive 15 wins by punches. Dan is well on his way back to the UFC, but standing in his way is Anthony Kaponis, a threat to anyone in the cage.
Exclusive Interview:
• "When did you start fighting, and what made you want to start?"
- I started fighting very young. I was always getting into fights in school, was always down for a good scrap, and I started doing jiu jitsu and a little boxing around 13-14 years old. I was hooked from the beginning.
• "Who is your favorite UFC fighter?"
- Favorite fighter has always and will always be Vitor Belfort, win or lose.
• "What is your favorite snack?"
- Favorite snack? lol, Is buffalo chicken a snack?
• "Would you rather play a board game, or go to a casino?"
- Go to a casino, and I don't gamble but board games are boring.
• "Which is better, Christmas or New Years?"
- New Years, all about the celebration, breaking in a new year, listening to peoples resolutions that last a few days.
• "What is your favorite brand of fight gear/clothing?"
- Big supporter of Boston Brawler. They're good people.
• "If you could be any super hero or movie character, who would you want to be?"
- Crimson Bolt from Super, Not Super 8, thats fake. Super is real and so is The Crimson Bolt.
• "In your fight on Saturday, did you ask for your opponent to step up, or was the fight offered to you first?"
- As far as I know the fight was offered to me. I was originally offered someone else and accepted but I guess they didn't want to take another lose, so then this was the fight offered to me.
• "What are you going to do to prepare for your opponent?"
- Same thing I do for every fight, focus on what I'm going to do and not what he wants to do.
• "Who did you enlist as your help to train for this fight?"
- My teammates at Team Aggression and South Shore SportFighting.
• "Are you and your opponent cool, or is this a grudge match?"
- I don't know, I guess we're cool. He had a lot to say a few months ago when we were supposed to fight, but this time around he's been quiet, which is probably the smart thing to do.
• "What do you think his best fighting attribute is?"
- His best attribute is that he seems to be able to throw a solid punch. I don't see why everyone's saying he's such a great wrestler, I don't think his wrestling is what makes him dangerous.
• "Why do you think/know you will beat him?"
- I think I'll win because I always think I'm going to win, and I know im going to beat him because I actually did something different for this fight, I trained hard, no days off.
• "Any words to him before the fight?"
- Hands Up. _________________________________________________________
One of the most well-known fighters in New England | Reps Team Sityodtong | Scares off Opponents | Good Submissions
Registered Fighter Back-story: Tyson Chartier carries a large fan-base locally, and is a promoter's dream. Having fought in 5 different local promotions, Tyson has devoted the year 2011 to Premier FC and their fans. He is a very well-rounded fighter, and is sure to bring action to any fight night around.
Exclusive Interview:
• "When did you start fighting, and what made you want to start?"
- I started training BJJ a little over five years ago, and had my first fight three years ago. I wrestled in high school, and after grad school I just wanted to stay competitive in something so I started doing BJJ, which ultimately lead to me wanting to fight.
• "Who is your favorite UFC fighter?"
- I am old school and still love Tito!
• "What is your favorite snack?"
- Little Debbie Cosmic Brownies!
• "Would you rather play a board game, or go to a casino?"
- Probably a casino, more people watching.
• "Which is better, Christmas or New Years?"
- Before this year I would have said New Years, but now I have a new nephew who lives in NH, so I am looking forward to spending some time with him on x-mas day.
• "What is your favorite brand of fight gear/clothing?"
- I train in PVL gloves for MMA, Everlast for boxing. For clothing, I don’t really wear a lot of the national stuff, but I do try and support the local companies as I appreciate what they do for local MMA and local fighters. PVL Brand, Boston Brawler, Prime, and Suckerpunch Athletics are all good people and have been fun to work with.
• "If you could be any super hero or movie character, who would you want to be?"
- I would want to be anyone who's acting alongside Megan Fox, haha.
• "In your fight on Saturday, did you ask for your opponent to step up, or was the fight offered to you first?"
- I was originally slated to fight Steven Carr, but he was unfortunately injured and forced to pull out with a broken hand. Premier FC had a new opponent for me in about 4 days. He was offered to me, I didn’t call him out or anything like that.
• "What are you going to do to prepare for your opponent?"
- I have been having my coaches and friends pull on my arms and legs in hopes that it will stretch me out and make me longer. I feel this will give Rralph some issues with my reach advantage, haha. I just stuck to my training, listened to my trainers, and kept focused on Dec 3rd.
• "Who did you enlist as your help to train for this fight?"
- When I was first offered the fight I was told Ralph was like 6’3 ish.. than 6’4 than 6’5. It seems as though the more people who hear about the fight, the taller he gets and the shorter I get lol. I figure by the fight night he might be close to 7 feet and I will be 5’2. I have been sparring a lot with John Johnston who is about 6’3 and Craig Szaokowski who is 6’5 and specializes in Muay Thai. They’ve done their best to mimic Ralphs style, and Chris Owen, my BJJ coach, was there the whole time tweaking my game to work with a longer fighter.
• "Are you and your opponent cool, or is this a grudge match?"
- I have never met Ralph, nor heard anything bad about him. I respect anyone who has the ability and discipline to do what we do.
• "What do you think his best fighting attribute is?"
- Definitely his height and range. He’s a tall/long fighter and he knows how to use it on his feet! He also has a pretty strong hairline which allows him to have much cooler haircuts going into fights than I do. Greg Rebello has me covered on this though and will be bringing his sharpie to draw in my sweet “Ribz” lineup so I am not folicly challenged for this fight!
• "Why do you think/know you will beat him?"
- I always go into a fight knowing I am prepared to win. My trainers, teammates, conditioning coaches, family, and friends all do their parts to keep me focused and get me ready. I know that if I fight my fight and stick to the game plan that we have worked on, than I am prepared to win!
• "Any words to him before the fight?"
- Just please show up lol. My last fight the kid pulled out 3 days before the fight.
Also wanted to give a big thanks to some important people who have helped me for this fight. Obviously Team Sityodtong, My BJJ coach Chris Owen; Scott, Tim, Sebastian, and Johnathan from TD Athletes Edge who do my physical therapy and strength & conditioning. PVL Brand, and Deathwish Inc. who helped me on some walkout T’s! And lastly to my small army of friends who stepped up this past weekend to help me move so I wouldn’t have to carry the brunt of the load a week before a fight! (Pete, Maggie, Patricia, Gardiner, Rob, Abby)
And a BIG congrats to my head strength and conditioning coach Tim Difrancesco from TD Athletes Edge. Now that the lockout is over he has just been offered the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach position for the Los Angeles Lakers. The contract is pending but he has been offered the position! So congrats to him, he has done a lot for me and I am super happy for him! Check the rest of the interviews out @ registeredfighter.com | |

| He recently had a kid and I'm assuming will be back in the PFC cage in 2012. He also runs a MMA site http://www.westernmassmma.com/ Which Dominage also sponsors, so take a look. | |
