Daniel Cormier out of UFC 206 main event fight with Anthony Johnson

The UFC 206 main event took a major hit on Friday, as an undisclosed injury has forced Daniel Cormier out of his light heavyweight title defense.

Daniel CormierCormier was supposed to put his belt on the line in a rematch with Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. The initial news came from an MMAFighting.com report that Cormier suffered an injury and had to withdraw.

Johnson confirmed the fight was canceled via his Instagram account, and tweeted to the champion, “I wish nothing but the best for DC and I hope you have a full recovery champ.”

Promotion officials are scrambling to figure out a new main event, but it’s not yet clear if they’ll be able to keep Johnson on the card or not, as the options for a new opponent are scarce. Former champion Jon Jones is under suspension and Johnson has recently knocked out the other top 5 light heavyweights.

If Johnson is to remain on the card, a heavyweight bout could be an option. He has fought at heavyweight in the past, defeating former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski at WSOF 2 in 2013.

Man, if they keep Johnson on the card the UFC better pay him as if it's a championship fight.

I just don't know who would take that fight on short notice.

I doubt highly Rumble takes another fight himself. He wants Cormier.

I dont see the UFC jumping at the chance to book Bader in there again to watch him dive at Rmble's feet from 15 feet away and then cover up lol.

Yeah I just can't believe the balls on him calling for Cormier or a Rumble rematch after that showing. He acts like wailing on Lil Nog somehow makes up for that and then some.

gegard tried to get this fight and that makes me love that guy 1000 times more.

not arlovski, with his absolute lack of chin and rumble's battering ram for fists, i would be scared for arlovski's remainder of brain power.
Gegard i would watch. though i think rumble would still touch him very hard, he does have the chance of avoiding and outpointing rumble.
Bader should just go away. its been what, like ten years, and he hasnt improved much. any real martial artist in his division with any energy left in the tank destroys him...give this meathead to machida again, when he comes back

Rumble actually already fought Arlovski at HW in Strikeforce. It was Rumble by decision if I recall.
