Interesting choice of words on the UFC Website.......

I hate to be doing this, because I don't really care anymore (and truthfully haven't for a long, long time) and have left the beating of this drum to others, but they definitely could've chosen a different phrase to advertise this if they really wanted to, so why didn't they?

Yeah Fedor in the UFC isn't happening.

That ship has sailed, sank, been raised, patched up and had a fresh coat of paint slapped on it, sailed again, beached on a deserted island, and sailed again.

Imagine him fighting someone who could actually hurt him..

on a serious note I am worried about this fight he has think weekend. I know Fabio is a ufc castoff and a mid tier fighter and everything else but he is tough as nails and could strike with the best of them. this is a tougher fight than most people think.

however, I think fedor wins and on july 9th they will make the announcement that fedor has signed with the UFC and he will fight JDS.

hes coming to the ufc and like I said it is happening soon.. as long as he wins this fight.

if fedor gets kod by Fabio I am going to take a lot of shit lol

But I still stick by that, to a degree. I did admittedly mean at the time that I wrote that quote that he won't be signing, because I thought it was obvious to him that the UFC is not willing to pucker up and kiss his ass. I still doubt they're willing to, and if he signs they probably didn't, but it's because he's realized that his star is fading quickly and this is his last chance.
But it's still true that the ship has sailed yada yada yada in terms of whether or not him signing with the UFC at this point means half a shit, IMO. If he signs now, it's not just 5 years too late. It's like 7 or 8.
But if he does sign and it's just a black and white "was I wrong or right?" I no doubt will have been wrong, for what that's worth at this point.
Like I said, this is your flag to fly. To me personally, it means really nothing at all for him to sign with the UFC at this point. It'll probably do his legacy more harm than good.

I also think he will be UFC champion in 2017 . this will cement his legacy if he can come to the ufc and win the title. if he goes there and cant compete against these guys it will tarnish him forever imo.
its all or nothing at this point.

either way I'm excited to see him fight. I think fedor is a really exciting fighter who could win the fight in multiple ways and always goes for the finish.. lets just hope his chin could hold up

IF he makes it to ufc, I don't see him making much of a splash at all.....maybe reaching the top 5, MAYBE......

The fact that it really does seem to be an "all or nothing scenario" is what would really surprise me the most if he does end up signing.
All indication for basically his entire post-Pride career have been that he's content to face lesser competition for big paydays and had no interest in testing himself against the best anymore. Sure, he fought some decent competition in SF, but that sort of exposed him to some degree and it seemed to scare him away from ever doing it again. From there he made it pretty clear he was done going into the deep water.

If he's had a change of heart and wants to try to fight the best of the best one last time, good for him. Props.
But again, I think it's a little too late now.
We'll see.

He ain't fitting in anywhere on that list after that performance.

I really hope the UFC had some kind 'fight-in' clause if they already had some kind of agreement with him going into this fight. Because even though he "won the fight"

there is no way in hell they're going to be able to market him against any top heavyweight, nor should they even try out of sheer ethical obligation.

its the ufc they will market him just fine..
they did it for every other fighter

brock after he got beat by mir
conor after he got beat by diaz
ronda after she got beat by holm

that's what the ufc does and they do that in a great way. building hype around people that don't necessarily deserve it.

Brock was kicking the shit out of Mir before he got caught, so there was still plenty to market for the guy given he was brand new to the game.

Conor and Ronda have yet to fight, with Ronda still not even scheduled. Pretty bad choices of examples, IMO.

brock vs mir lasted 1 minute and a few seconds.. where brock was deducted a point for illegal blows and couldn't do shit with his ground and pound that allowed mir to make him tap. whats marketable about that?

ok so if offering conor 10 million to fight diaz who would get 2 million and a headline spot on the biggest ufc card in history isn't enough lets talk about how they pushed him into a title fight after conor beat up dennis siver..

please don't try to tell me that they don't do a great job of marketing fighters that don't necessarily deserve it you know like ronda is a once in a lifetime athlete, and a bunch of other bullshit that has been thrown down peoples throats.

Look, I get it that you're a little salty because you swore he was gonna be the UFC champion by 2017, but the fact is Fedor just barely squeaked by Fabio fucking Maldonado for christ's sake.
So for the purposes of this discussion, let's say the UFC is going to sign him anyway. Even if they are stupid enough to try and spin it like he's some kind of threat to the heavyweight crown, the fans would have to believe it. They won't.
Do you really think they're/we're all that dumb and impressionable that anyone would really look at Fedor vs any top 5 or probably even top 10 UFC heavyweight as anything more than a borderline freakshow fight?
Based on your comments on the other thread, no; I don't think you believe that, so I'm not really sure what you're trying to sell here, unless you're just trying really hard to salvage something out of this fight.

might want to look at what you thought I swore about.


most thought that arlovski, hunt or werdum wouldnt be a threat to the ufc belt when they were signed and they are all title fighters/champions in the ufc. so why is fedor different? believe me fedor would be a needle mover if he was fighting for the belt or the #10 ranked HW and the UFC would be able to market him with ease.
