conor vs diaz rematch ufc 200 in the works

It appears as though UFC 200 is on the verge of getting its main event.

The UFC is close to finalizing a non-title welterweight rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz for the July 9 card, MMAFighting.com has learned from multiple sources. If all goes as planned, the promotion is hoping to announce the fight shortly.




Earlier this month, Diaz defeated McGregor via second-round rear-naked choke in the main event of UFC 196. The fight, which was put together on just 11 days notice after McGregor's original opponent Rafael dos Anjos withdrew due to a foot injury, was a smashing business success for the UFC. It easily eclipsed one million pay-per-view buys and was the third-highest gate in the organization's history.

The loss marked McGregor's first in eight UFC fights, dropping his professional record to 19-3. Diaz, a nine-year veteran of the UFC, is now 19-10 and, most importantly, more popular than ever as a result of the win over McGregor on March 5.

And while the likes of Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo have been campaigning to fight McGregor in July, the plan right now is for the Irishman to fight Diaz again after all.

Already reported for UFC 200, which will take place at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, are Cain Velasquez vs. Travis Browne and Gegard Mousasi vs. Derek Brunson

Easy money for Nate IMO, but at the same time it's absolutely pointless and kind of insulting to Diaz. It's like the UFC is saying his win didn't count or something.
And on top of that, are they intentionally going out of their way to see that Edgar or even Aldo to a lesser extent never get the chance to fight him for that title?
I'd be absolutely furious if I was a FW contender and had to yet again sit around and watch the champ fight outside of the weight class, and this time following a loss outside of the weight class.

This is just becoming mind-numbingly and increasingly transparently stupid and agend-driven.

after the loss i found myself rooting for mcgregor to get better, go down to his weights and win, either beat aldo again or wouldnt even mind beating edgar, though i really like edgar. I would even love for mcgregor to go and beat dos anjos. But this is fucking ridiculous. it is an insult to Nate and pretty much loss of any semblance of order in ufc. A champ can just do whatever he wants and not fight in his category for however long he wants. This is ufc destroying fans trust in them that they would follow order and fairness in their org.
Now i hope Nate beats Connor for a second time

its really stupid.. theres tons of fights for conor in his division and plenty of options for diaz in his division.
