Chael Sonnen is heading from the cage and broadcast booth to the reality-TV boardroom.
Sonnen, a former UFC title challenger, current podcast host and occasional ESPN analyst, has been selected as one of 16 cast member who will appear on “The Celebrity Apprentice.”
The show, formerly hosted by presidential hopeful Donald Trump and now set to feature former California governor/action star Arnold Schwarzenegger, airs on NBC, but a debut date hasn’t been set.
It will be the eighth installment of “Celebrity Apprentice” and the 15th overall season of the reality game show, in which cast members take part in business challenges in hopes of becoming the final person standing. The celebrity version of the show features cast members competing to win money for charitable organizations of their choice.
Joining Sonnen on the cast are retired boxing world champion Laila Ali, TV host Brooke Burke-Charvet, NFL Hall of Famer Eric Dickerso, Grammy-winning artist Boy George, “America Ninja Warrior” host Matt Iseman, actress/host Carrie Keagan, celebrity stylist/reality star Carson Kressley, Olympic gold medalist/WBNA champ Lisa Leslie, comedian Jon Lovitz, Mötley Crüe vocalist Vince Neil, reality star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, reality star Kyle Richards, reality star Porsha Williams, Heisman Trophy winner/NFL vet Ricky Williams and Wilson Phillips member Carnie Wilson.
Sonnen, a former UFC and WEC title challenger, retired from MMA in 2014 following multiple drug-test failures. His rivalry with former UFC champ Anderson Silva and pound-for-pound great Jon Jones provided some of the biggest events in MMA, where Sonnen’s promotional talents sometimes outpaced his fighting efforts. The 38-year-old has remained active in the sport with broadcasting, podcasting and other media gigs. | |
