- Conflicting reports emerged on Thursday on the status of former UFC lightweight Corey Hill. Friends of the fighter posted on social media that the 36-year-old fighter passed away this morning following a bout of fungal pneumonia.
The UFC released a statement indicating that Hill had passed, but later took the statement down.
“The UFC family mourns the tragic loss of Corey Hill, who passed away on May 14 due to complications from pneumonia at the age of 36. Fans will remember Corey for his time as a lightweight competitor who fought multiple times for the organization in 2008 and was a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter season 5. UFC sends its condolences to the family and friends of Corey Hill,” read the press release.
Hill’s wife, Lauren, informed TMZ Sports that her husband is alive and “resting.”
“My husband is fighting for his life. We want him in everyone’s prayers,” she said.
Hill participated on the fifth season of The Ultimate Fighter and fought three times in the organization in 2008. His UFC career was cut short when he suffered a gruesome broken leg at UFC Fight Night 16 against Dale Hartt. He returned to fighting a year later with a decision win over Jason Trzewieczynski. | Damn that would be a real damn shame if he passes away. I also enjoyed his fights and really liked him on TUF 5. Get well soon Hill !!!!! | |

| Yeah, it sounded like at best, he hadn't passed "yet", and it was only a matter of time.
