Since the UFC’s surprise announcement that it had signed former WWE superstar Phil “CM Punk” Brooks to a multi-fight deal, fans have been desperate to know who will get the first crack at him in the cage.

There’s currently no answer to that question, but UFC Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta gave some more insight into the type of challenge they’re looking to hand Punk.

“It’s not just going to be some guy off the street,” Fertitta said in an interview with ESPN.com. “It’s going to be somebody who is a professional mixed martial artist – certainly somebody who MMA media will recognize and know.”

Fertitta would go on to explain that they’ll likely have to look for someone not currently on the UFC roster, but that he will let matchmaker Joe Silva present a list of names and they will decide from there.

In addition to not knowing who his opponent will be, Punk has still not formally announced what weight he will be fighting at, but is currently training at Roufusport.
