Robbie Lawler vs. Nick Diaz II? UFC president would 'love to see' it

Add UFC President Dana White to the list of people interested in a rematch between Robbie Lawler and Nick Diaz.

Whether that rematch will have Lawler’s UFC welterweight title on the line remains to be seen, but if both sides can clear some future hurdles, it very well could be.

The first showdown between Lawler (25-10 MMA, 10-4 UFC) and Diaz (25-9 MMA, 6-6 UFC) came at UFC 47 in April 2004. Although they were both relatively inexperienced at the time, Lawler’s history of vicious knockout wins positioned him as the favorite.

However, after an entertaining first round, the Stockton slugger caught Lawler with a punch early in the second frame. “Ruthless” collapsed to the ground face-first in what still stands as his only career knockout loss.

Lawler and Diaz went their separate ways after that fight, but in many ways, they also kept close. The next several years saw both men spend time in PRIDE, EliteXC and Strikeforce, but the rematch was never booked.

I'd like to see it, and I think I'd actually have to say Diaz would be the favorite, or at least would be a bigger threat to Lawler than anybody else in the division. Hear me out;

They've both improved dramatically since their first fight, but as far as this particular match up is concerned, Diaz is much more dangerous to Lawler now than Lawler is to Diaz due their respective improvements.
Lawler was already a great striker with huge power, but what's improved for him over the years is his wrestling. That's what's kept the fights in his world (stand-up) against guys like MacDonald and Hendricks. However, Diaz wouldn't try to take Lawler down, so Lawler's wrestling improvements wouldn't be a factor.
Diaz on the other hand was primarily a BJJ guy in the first fight, and has since greatly improved his standing (particularly his boxing technique). Diaz beat Lawler on the feet last time when he wasn't known as a striker, and now that he is, he could pose an even bigger match-up problem for Lawler.

Would love to see the fight but non title unless maybe Diaz does Silva and does it convincingly. But i have Lawler and the rematch. I feel like Lawler still has the passion and the hunger to compete and wanting to fight the hard fights. Diaz....how do i put this he has the passion for the big fights but i feel now a days the hunger to fight and compete just isn't there. Ever since he left strike force he just hasn't seemed like the same fighter to me.

I think he could get up for this fight, though. If you read between the lines when he talks about his dislike of fighting, what he's really saying is that he dislikes what MMA has evolved into in terms of fighters playing the system and point-fighting their way to victory (a la his last few fights against GSP and Condit). He's tired of fighting against fighters who don't fight him, basically, so he'd rather just not fight at all than partake in one of those kinds of matchups.
But that wouldn't be an issue against Lawler. There would be no point-fighting in that matchup! lol

^^^agree about nicks stance on mma and what its become......I think nick loves to "fight" when his opponent doesn't come from the greg Jackson ballet academy and look to coast by on points and back peddling.
