Dana White, 42, president of Ultimate Fighting Championship, has overseen explosive growth of the mixed martial arts promotion company, which visits Milwaukee for the first time Sunday. White took some time to answer questions from the Journal Sentinel's Gary D'Amato.
Q. The local mixed martial arts community is excited about UFC Live at the Bradley Center. Why did you decide to come to Milwaukee, and why now?
A. What we've been doing over the last 10 years is building this sport and getting it sanctioned. Milwaukee is a new market for us. We've never been there. It's time.
Q. The rapid growth of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) in recent years is well-documented, but it seems as if pay-per-view numbers have leveled off a bit. How and where do you see UFC growing?
A. I had this conversation two weeks ago with Sports Illustrated. The economy isn't getting better; it's getting worse. It's a scary world out there, and yet this business continues to grow. Trust me, we haven't peaked. We're still growing. We're still climbing.
Q. Social media is an important component in your organization's growth. I know you're active on Twitter and have a huge following. Are you ahead of the curve compared to other sports?
A. Social media is where it's going. These kids growing up, it's all about social media. Back 10 years ago nobody would cover us, and the only way you got your information out was on the Internet, whether it was UFC.com or chat sites where all the hard-core fans go. I love talking directly to the fans. I started early and I'm really aggressive. I've got 1.6 million followers. I think at the end of the year I'll hit 2 million. The thing about Twitter is it goes directly to your phone like I sent you a text. It's so powerful, it's unbelievable.
Q. Is the UFC destined to be a niche sport with a cult following, or can you become a mainstream sport and compete with football, baseball and basketball?
A. It will become mainstream. Absolutely. Right now we're the largest pay-per-view provider in the world. Our fights have gone head-to-head with the NBA playoffs and out-rated them in the demo Source

| What is the limit for the UFC? There has to be a finite available dollar amount (fans) and a pool of good fighters. Supposing the UFC does reach the upper limit of these will the nay sayers jump all over the ufc's guts saying "SEE SEE WE TOLD YOU YOU'D FAIL"
How far can the UFC grow?
