- One of the most anticipated bits of fallout from any UFC event is typically who won the $50,000 Fight of the Night, Knockout of the Night, and Submission of the Night fighter bonuses.
That likely won’t change, but the structure of the bonus system has been altered. UFC officials on Tuesday announced a bit of tweak to the traditional post-fight awards. There will still be Fight of the Night honors in which both winner and loser will be rewarded with a $50,000 bonus, but the Knockout and Submission of the Night honors have been mothballed. The UFC instead will off two Performance of the Night honors, regardless of whether the award winners scored a knockout or a submission. The two awards, as the name suggests, will go to fighters that UFC officials deem had the best performances, no matter the outcome of their respective fights. “The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced today a modification to its live event bonuses. Effective immediately, UFC will award Fight of the Night bonuses to each of the fighters in the best fight of the night, as well as additional Performance of the Night bonuses to the two best individual performances on the card,” read a statement issued by UFC officials on Tuesday. “The bonus amounts will remain $50,000. The Performance of the Night bonuses will reward the athletes who put on the best and most exciting individual performances.” http://www.mmaweekly.com/ufc-restructures-fighter-performance-bonuses-does-away-with-ko-and-sub-of-the-night Being from New York and reading and hearing all the news and tie-ups regarding MMA being legalized here, I can guarantee you this is a move directly meant to help that cause. I can attest to more than one occasion where I have heard a NY political figure involved in this process (for it and opposed to it) point to the fact that fighters get a bonus for KOing their opponent as proof that it's more barfighting than sport.

I think that is a big part of it, but it also makes a lot of sense. It gives them more flexibility with the bonuses instead having to issue it to the only submission or only KO of the night.

I think that is a big part of it, but it also makes a lot of sense. It gives them more flexibility with the bonuses instead having to issue it to the only submission or only KO of the night. Good perspective on both sides of the issue. Not every card sees a submission or KO, so technically nobody would be eligible on a card like that. Until now. This way it lets greedy Don King Hitler Dana throw an extra 100k in bonuses out there every night regardless of KO's or subs.

| Yeah I didn't really think of that. I can remember a ton of occasions where a few fighters deservedly should have gotten a bonus, but only one did because he had the best KO/sub in a night full of awesome KOs/subs.
The fact that the terminology and direct correlation between the bonus and a vicious KO is being scrapped is just icing on the cake if it helps the cause here in NY.

| Pffffft KO of the night and sub of the night mean something real. Best "performance" means Dana gets more leeway to give more cash to his pets.
Best Performance" is too subjective but will start lots of fights in forums.

| Faber wins Performance on the Night every time from here on out, and is immediately granted a #1 contender or title fight following each of those awards. Book it. | |
