Dana White offers Nick Diaz fight against Lyoto Machida @ MW

A day after UFC president Dana White told FUEL TV's "UFC Tonight" that he wanted to book a middleweight fight between Machida and Vitor Belfort, White said on Wednesday he offered Diaz a fight against Machida at middleweight.

"I talked to Diaz today, and I made him an offer, so we'll see what happens," White reportedly said during a question-and-answer session in Boston for The Shawn Thornton Foundation, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of those affected by cancer and Parkinson's diseases. MMAJunkie.com first reported the news.

"He had been talking about going to 185 pounds. Machida has been talking about going to 185 pounds. So we wanted to see if he wanted to fight Machida at 185."

White told MMAFighting.com afterwards that he offered the fight to Diaz himself, but he didn't know which fight had better a chance of happening: Machida vs. Belfort or Machida vs. Diaz.

Belfort has yet to comment on the potential Machida fight.

Yeah... there are a few ways this one could go down... the one that seems most apparent to me is this: Diaz taunts for 3 rounds while Machida lands 14 strikes. Machida wins by split decision.

First off, it's like you guys have already said; Machida will not engage, and Diaz will just continue to get more and more pissed off until the only thing happening in this fight is Machida circling around the cage and Diaz just flipping him off and calling him a bitch.
Second, what would this do for Machida's career? he has nothing to gain here. No way Machida would agree to this. You don't get any closer to a LHW title shot by beating a semi-retired WW on a 2-fight losing streak via evading him and landing 6 counter-punches and 3 leg kicks.

Well I think Machida is contemplating a permanent move to MW.

As much as I love Weidman and think his style is a nightmare for Anderson Silva, I also think Machida's style would pose a problem for Weidman...

Machida's style poses a problem for any one who wants to fight...

You could say the same thing about Diaz.

Diaz's style poses a problem in that if you stand there and "fight" him, you will usually lose.
Machida's style poses a problem that if try to "fight" him, you're going to get hit twice round, lose a SD, and then go "WTF?"

Dana is taking some liberties here with what Diaz had said, and really just seems like he's being a smartass about this.
Diaz said he wanted to fight Silva, not just go to MW and fight anybody. Dana is just saying "He can fight who I want him to fight at MW, or he can stay at WW", which is really what Dana wants him to do.
