ufc 163 discussion: machida got robbed!

ok since its going to be monday or tuesday until somebody posts anything about the fights, ill start the talk because im still mad. machida clearly won and ufc needs to rethink their judging system. except the two takedowns at the end of first two round, davis had absolutely nothing. he barely touched machida. dragon dominated on the feet, picked him apart, inflicted a lot more damage. in the third round, he even dominated the wrestling part of the fight.
i was honestly surprised when the winner was announced.

All I have been reading is that people thought he won. But from my view point Davis out Machida'd Machida. The first 2 rounds were close with Davis landing slightly more and also securing a takedown in each. Those are 2 rounds for Davis IMO. I mean if you land a total 27 fuckin strikes in a 15 minute fight and you are supposedly this outstanding striker... you deserve to lose in your hometown. He wasn't there to fight he was there to play the Machida Game and Phil came to play as well... just turns out that Phil has more tools to play said game.

how in the world did davis outstruck machida? absolutely not. whatever the number is, davis landed mostly slipping, grazing shots and almost everything machida landed was powerful and almost on point. the first round was very close and i would not argue too much if its scored for davis but in the second machida figured him out. the two takedowns are important but not enough to overcome the striking in this fight. davis didnt do anything with them and in the third he couldnt even wrap his arms around machida.
also, if you judge the fight overall and not round by round, the fight is obviously machida's

not even close to shitty. it was a good example of machida figuring out his opponents timing and patterns, countering effectively. exactly what martial arts is about.
but if you are not a fan of this style and machida in general then the argument is moot.

I don't know what fight The Commie was watching... but it was a SUPER shitty fight IMO. Hell I'm not sure one could even justify calling it a fight. I guarantee when you watch it, you would be perfectly fine with it going down as a draw. They both did next to nothing.

I actually didn't purchase this card, but from what I have heard and seen in articles and recaps, it sounds like Machida got robbed big time...... to the point where even Phil Davis himself was visibly surprised that he got the nod.
Like I said; I didn't see the fight, but there's obviously something to this.

But hey, the point is; questionable judge's decision?! Color me shocked!!!

I'm pretty sure most peoples views are being swayed by being a Machida fan, the commentary or they are counting strikes that didn't land.
Here are the total fight metric stats. Top these off with a take down at the end of round 1 and 2... Machida is the obvious loser.

Finally watched the fight.
It was boring, IMO. Takedowns disregarded (as Davis did nothing with them), the fight was just a draw. I'd have no idea how to pick a winner on that one.
Certainly, neither fighter would have deserved to complain over the outcome.

Plus, not sure how compustrike defines a "significant strike".
No way in hell there were 48 significant strikes landed in that fight.

This goes back to what we're discussing on another thread...and this is the exact reason I've become bored with the UFC. I had no interest in watching this fight Saturday...as a matter of fact I told a buddy pre-fight that I give it to Davis by way of decision. I still haven't seen the fight and I have zero interest in watching it. How sad is it that we have two fighters of this caliber that refuse to fight one another for all intents and purposes and make it a boring draw basically.

Hell give em BOTH to Jones so he can show them what a "fight" really looks like.

Well, he's already showed Machida.

Regardless of who won, it sounds like I made the right choice in not purchasing this.
I'm sure the Machida fans are overreacting a little here, but I'm also sure the Machida detractors were already complaining about him before the fight even started. His style of fighting makes him an easy target.

I watched the highlights and got confused.  The commentators kept praising Phil Davis as the footage was showing Machida landing and moving forward and than Phil would take him down and do nothing with position.

Davis does nothing for me.

Yeah, screw both those guys for trying to win a silly little point game. Trying to "steal a round" with a pointless takedown at the end of the round is no better than jumping in and out with patty cake punches.

I am getting more OK with the fact that Cormier could get an immediate title shot. Hell, I'd be fine giving it to a guy like Texeira at this point.

I like Machida and was interested in seeing him fight Jones again, but he brings this shit on himself. This is now the 4th time he has been involved in a super close controversial decision. Two times he was on the winning side and two times the losing. Shogun, Rampage, Hendo, and now this. Any of those could of been argued either way.
Go out and try to win and this wont happen.
And if he is gonna be a boring round stealer then his camp should at least teach him how to do it better, because he is obviously not always convincing the judges...

UFC is quickly becoming a non-contact sport both Machida and Davis need to apologize to the fans who did pay to see the fight with the reasonable expectation that the fighters actually FIGHT!

There are certain fighters that I've just become accustomed to not even watching anymore. Machida I won't watch. I'll DVR and then fast forward through...GSP is now becoming that way too...

That's how I am with Phil Davis; no interest whatsoever.
I'm not a Machida fan either, but as Fistk said, I was interested in seeing him fight Jones again. He's the only fighter I've seen that seemed to be able to present some real problems to Jones (apologies to Evans and Belfort, but even though Evans took him the distance, he never really threatened him, and other than Belfort locking on an armbar right away, he never did much in the way of offense in that fight).
I'd still like to see Machida fight Jones, and I think a win against a top 5 guy in the next year or so gets him there. Phil Davis is not sniffing that belt any time soon, mark my words.
