- UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, made an appearance on Tuesday’s edition of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ to promote his new book. St-Pierre discussed many topics, including that he would likely go to the lightweight division rather than moving up to middleweight, should he decided to change weight classes.
Here is what St-Pierre had to say:
“I don’t do much cutting, it would be easier for me to go fight at 155 than fighting at 185. I would be more at my weight naturally at 155.
There’s guys at 155 that walk around at 190 like me. They think I’m big because I have a large frame, but I’m not a big guy. I’m not thick.”
And in regards to a possible fight with UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva:
“Anderson Silva is very big, he’s 230 pounds. He’s a very big guy walking around, and I’m 190 pounds. It’s a lot of weight difference. If this fight happens one day, we’re going to have to decide what weight class and everything.
If he can make 170, he can weigh 170, I can weigh 170, and everything is fine. We’ll see, Anderson is fighting Weidman. Hendricks is freaking out. He wants to fight me. We’ll see what’s going to happen in the future – probably Hendricks.” continued...

| Good gracious GSP would be lightning fast at 155. And he'd be a huge 155. But damn, if we think he never ends a fight at 185 it'd be like watching a wasp sting someone at 155. | |

| Or maybe he will be big and strong at 155 and put people out. I think it would all depend on how hard the cut actually is. If its as easy as it sounds... he would likely bloat up to 170ish after weigh ins and be a monster come fight time. Possibly packing enough weight and power to KO a 155er. | |

| I am actually fine with GSP taking a year off between fights. It sucks for guys wanting a title, but it's not like I just can't wait to watch GSP fight again.
I'd probably spend $60 on a PPV to watch Matt Brown fight 4 different guys, but wouldn't spend $5 to watch GSP fight 4 times.
I don't believe for a second that GSP will be finishing guys quickly at LW just because he will be bigger.

| I don't think I've ever seen so many contradictions in such a small amount of words. - Quote :

What does he mean by "They think I’m big because I have a large frame"? So he's trying to say he's not thick, but Anderson Silva is? That's completely ridiculous. He's implying that he is some kind of small WW and Silva is this humongous MW? Gimme a break. I don't think I can name one MW who is leaner than Silva. - Quote :

So in one breathe, Anderson is so enormous that it wouldn't even be feasible for GSP to go up and fight him at 185. And then in the next breathe, he suggests that this giant 230lb monster could make 170? Translation: I don't want to fight Anderson Silva. Once again, a complete 180 from what Dana just said only a few days ago. I am so over this.

| They will probably fight some day when the fight is no longer relavent.
Reminds me of how (for years) the UFC was going to make the Chuck Liddell/Wanderlei Silva fight happen. Then it finally happened after both guys were way past their glory days and the fight was anything but exciting.

| I thought Chuck/Anderlei was a fantastic fight, but that doesn't change the fact that both guys were way past their prime and the fight should have happened years earlier. And I agree; they'll probably fight in 5 years when they both have a few losses and it's completely meaningless, and then the UFC is gonna try to promote it like "We give the fans what they want! You asked for it, and now we're gonna give it to you! You're welcome!!!" And I'll be like no, I asked for it 15 fights ago. Go fuck yourself. | |
