Subject: How good is Pro Elite’s August 27th lineup? Sat Jul 30, 2011 12:03 am
Quote :
As Pro Elite gears to impress the MMA world with its August 27th return to the Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii, many are wondering just how good their initial fight offering will be.
The lineup:
Andrei Arlovski (15-9) vs. Ray Lopez (5-2)
This makes for an interesting main event. Arlovski of course brings some name recognition from his time as the UFC heavyweight champion. The Pit Bull is only 32 years old and could be Pro Elite’s main draw for a while. The downside is that he has lost four fights in a row, with three by knockout.
The relatively inexperienced Ray Lopez looks to be a good opponent for Arlovski to get back on track with, but he could be dangerous with his power shots. Please refer to his 75 second TKO of Rob Morrow for KOTC earlier this month as an example of just how dangerous he can potentially be.
Taking into account his experience and size advantage though, Arlovski should be able to rumble through this one and become a premier draw once again, this time for Pro Elite.
Kendall Grove (12-9) vs. Joe Riggs (34-13)
The 28 year old Hawaiian native “Spyder” Grove brings his UFC experience and lanky middleweight self into a battle with 28 year old “Diesel” Riggs, a veteran of the UFC and Strikeforce.
Riggs has lost two fights in a row and needs a win. He holds notable victories over Nick Diaz, Phil Baroni, Chris Lytle, and his current challenger, Kendall Grove.
Grove is on a two fight skid of his own and would love a win in front of his home crowd. His last fight was in the UFC where he had a 7-6 record.
This makes for a great rematch of a 2004 bout that saw Riggs beat Grove by 1st round KO at the same Blaisdell Arena.
Kala Hose (7-5) v Drew McFedries (9-6)
In any show you have to fill the house, and bringing in local middleweight draw Kala Hose will help. He fought for the previous version of Pro Elite and has lost his last three fights.
Facing Hose will be UFC veteran Drew McFrederies, who is coming off of a 3rd round TKO of Gary Tapusoa at Titan FC 16 in January.
Mark Ellis (Debut) v Jake Huen (1-0)
This is an up-and comers matchup that Pro Elite is hoping will lead to some homegrown stars.
Ellis is a NCAA Division I wrestling champion and will face off against the popular former University of Hawaii linebacker Jake Huen in a heavyweight matchup. There is considerable hype for this bout even though the two only have one professional fight between them.
Raquel Pa’aluhi (3-1) v Sara McMann (2-0)
Pro Elite is trying here to do what the UFC has always been reluctant to do; tap into the popularity of women’s MMA.
McMann is an Olympian silver medal winner and will face Hawaiian favorite “Rocky” Pa’aluhi. You have to like Pro Elite for not forgetting about the fans of female fighting.

I give it ** out of ***** it is definitely less than impressive IMO but then again, it is a promotion that was just freshly pulled from the grave... What would you rate the card?
