I got to talk to colton smith on skype.

I was at my gym at lunch time today and colt hit my coach up on skype to say hi he was out at that moment so guess who got to talk to him for a few . He wanted to say thanks for the support and hopes he can put on some good fights for us to talk about on the board. He even joked around saying that his new years eve resoultion was to finish a fight...haha he also told me of some of his future UFC plans.

1. He is hoping to fight again by april or may

2. he is dropping down to 155 and if that doesnt go well he will take some time off and go back to 145.

3. He also told me ricci was a bit of a douche bag in the back after there fight. Ricci made a remark that wrestlers like him are a dime a dozen and still feels he is the better fighter. ricci is also going down to 155 too by the way. Ricci also made the comment that no one in the house including colton was no where near his skill level. Ricci also told colton that if that low blow didnt happen he could have taken the fight. Now i know this is here say stuff but i have never known colton to be a liar either and he really is a humble guy too.

4. Colt and john mannly were both invited to train with roy for any upcoming fights in the future ( although colton didnt sound like he was that interested)John mannly and Colton have become very good friends and plan on training together in the future and knows he has a UFC fight coming up in 2013. no one else from team nelson was given the invite to come train with him.

5. colton did say that he felt roy should have pushed the guys more and could have done a bit more coaching but also stated that roy wasnt even half as bad as the show made him out to be. he also stated that guys who were complaining to roy about the training should have come to him before there fights with this instead of after the fact to complain about it. plus he also wanted to make clear it is the fighters job to make sure he is as well rounded and prepared for th fight as possible. i liked his view on a coach" a coach is just a training tool like any other, when you use it right you get the best results and when you dont take full advantage of it you have no one to blame but yourself." he also went on to say that other guys on the team offered to help those who were complaining about not enough training and most of the time declined to take the help.

6. he swears up and down that the fake glove tap was never on purpose. He openly admitted that he was very nervous about the fight and had some gidders before the fight.when he went up to touch gloves colton said he thought the guy was starting to jerk back a little like he didnt want to touch any more so he went in for the take down. he also said too that it could have just been him and his nerves 2nd guessing what was about to happen and instead of taking a chance on that he went in for the kill instead. he also said " i know i have a lot of fights ahead of me to prove that i am not that type of guy"


So thats all i got from Colton. but he is very excited to be in the UFC and hopes he can win some more fans over with his future fights.

I think he could be really at a light weight class, especially with little standup that I've seen.

Good quick read, I look forward to seeing him get those finishes. Does suck that Ricci is appearing to be a douche...I liked what I saw of Ricci on the show and was hoping to see more of him.

One thing about Colton, he looks to me EXACTLY like a small GSP...he's built exactly like him, moves just like him and fights very similiarly.

Agree. He just really needs to work on his standup, since he's going to get in trouble if he goes against a good wrestler and can't get the takedown.... there are just a couple of guys with strong wrestling backrounds in the UFC.

Maybe after a win at 155, I'd like to see him fight a guy like Maynard. He's not going to be able to just score an easy takedown agains the guy and will likely have to stand and trade, if not just to set up a takedown.

Colton's a great dude. He will be with Marcus Davis and I Friday from 8-10 pm.

You're right. Having said that I still think he's a more rounded fighter with a better skill set.

Aaaaaand...based soley from what I've seen from both Colton and Ricci, I'd rather watch Ricci lose 5 fights using his style than watch Colton win 5 using HIS style....if that makes any sense.

Skill set matters not if you can't defend the take down though.

Exactly. My money will never support guys like GSP.
If I am going to purchase a card, I am only going to do it for guys that have a history of going for the kill early and often.... even if they have a .500 record in the UFC.

I was entertained by Colton's style he's constantly working for something as opposed to someone who just lays there, either on top or bottom and just does nothing.

I guess to me he's a completely one dimensional fighter. That works GREAT for going against inexperienced fighters, this is why I really look forward to him fighting someone like Maynard that can defend takedowns and give Colton and challenge by pulling him out of his element.

And I do agree Chrom...skill set means nothing if you can't defend the one skill set that you're lacking in.

Last night at NHFL

Yeah, had a local sponsored guy here that flew out and fought in NHFL. That's him on the far left. Fought a tough guy out of Sityodtong. He ended up losing due to some vicious leg kicks from what I hear.

He's on the same flight as me to DFW this morning. Just talked to him for a sec, but seems like a pretty good guy. Apparently, he just started his own radio show yesterday.
