- World Series of Fighting (WSOF) made its mixed martial arts (MMA) debut
last night (Nov. 3, 2012,) on NBC Sports Network. And it's off to a great start with an impressive first event that featured numerous exciting finishes.Whenever I see some new mixed martial arts (MMA) organization promising "stacked" cards, I feel like an old man sitting in his rocking char and watching a line of fresh-faced new recruits heading off to war.
"I seen it all before," I say, spitting into the grass. "They show up, got the world in their sights. Gonna be number one. They seen what happened to the others, but they know better. They ain't gonna make those mistakes."
I lean back, breathing in the bravado and misplaced hope. Smells bitter.
"Be dead 'fore they know it."
But, Todd Harris's inability to form a coherent sentence and that nonsense with the Gracie, Cobb and Carl fights notwithstanding, World Series of Fighting's debut event last night (Nov. 3, 2012) from the Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Nevada, raised a little spark of hope in the jaded lump of coal I call a heart, because its doing a hell of a lot right.
Aside from the solid production values (although still below Bellator's, in my opinion), what really stands out to me is the fighters its signing. WSOF is not committing the classic blunders, which are, of course, "never get involved in a land war in Asia" and "don't throw all your money at big names and hope for the best." The organization is doing a fine job of picking up solid, entertaining fighters, focusing more on getting a deep roster rather than one that looks good on the back of a DVD.

| Sprong looked fucking impressive man those fucking head kicks man. First fight and he lands a jumping head kick, plus Bas on commentary is always a good thing. | |

| Yeah... Sprong was the highlight of the card for me.... the one guy I wouldn't mind the UFC giving a chance.
Also, what happened in the Gracie fight (the only fight I didn't see)? Heard there was some controversey, yet sherdog's play-by-play had no mention. | |
