- Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix 2012 winner Daniel Cormier says going
toe-to-toe against current UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, would prove to be a 'tougher' fight than one against heavyweight kingpin, Junior dos Santos, because of the wrestling skills of 'Bones.'
"If [teammate Cain Velasquez] is not the champion, why not stay at heavyweight? I'm 10-0 at heavyweight. I'm undefeated. I haven't lost. If Cain's not the champion, why wouldn't I stay up and fight? ... Jon Jones is a tougher fight. I think Jon Jones is a tougher fight because of his ability to wrestle. Obviously Junior's a bigger puncher and extremely confident, as he should be, but I think Jon's a tougher fight for a guy like me because of his wrestling ability."
-- Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix 2012 winner, Daniel Cormier, tells Sherdog that a fight against current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones would be a much "tougher" one than facing heavyweight title holder, Junior dos Santos. Not that "Cigano" isn't a dangerous foe. It's just that "Bones" has a wrestling advantage over the Brazilian bomber, while Junior obviously holds the striking ace up his sleeve. Then again, it's safe to say Cormier has the upper hand on Jones in the wrestling department given his Olympic-level skills. Cormier, who is expected to eventually join the ranks of the UFC, will find out soon enough which of the two is a tougher match up because he will likely find himself inside the Octagon against at least one, and perhaps even both, of them down the road. The former Olympian hasn't been shy in expressing his interest in dropping down to 205-pounds to face Jones, while a fight opposite ‘Cigano" would likely happen first, seeing as how fighting in the land of the giants is his true calling until proven otherwise. continued... | |

| Probably a fair assessment. Nowhere does he say either fight would be easy. If he cannot go toe-to-toe with either fighter it makes sense that his perception of an easier fight would be the one with higher probability of a takedown. | |

| Yup, it's far easier to out wrestle a boxer rather than a wrestler with stand up. | |
