- Former champion Sarah Kaufman made her title argument at the expense of Liz "Girl-Rilla" Carmouche.
Judges awarded Kaufman a unanimous decision against Carmouche Saturday at Strikeforce Challengers 17 in Las Vegas. Kaufman stuffed most of Carmouche's takedowns while gradually wearing her down with jabs and straight punches to the face to earn 30-27 scores across the board. Kaufman was Strikeforce's 135-pound women's champion for several months last year before Marloes Coenen defeated her in October. Carmouche, a relative newcomer to MMA, dominated Coenen for much of their championship fight in March before the titleholder caught her with a submission for a come-from-behind win.Coenen's next title defense is scheduled for July 30 against Miesha "Takedown" Tate. Kaufman wants Coenen to win next week to set up a rematch for the belt. "I need me to be the next fight in there," Kaufman said. "I want to take that title back. I want to avenge my loss, and I hope the fans want to see that." In Saturday's main event, welterweight Bobby Voelker knocked out Roger Bowling for the second time in the second round. Voelker survived Bowling's early strikes before stunning him with a knee and finishing him with punches.
USAToday Unfortunately for her, she won't be getting that rematch for the title. Since Tate is gonna come out and prove that Coenen was exposed in her last fight, take her down and GnP the hell out of her. | |
