| Subject: Cormier Suggests he and Jon Jones Coach TUF, then Fight for LHW Belt in 2013 Mon Sep 10, 2012 4:30 pm | |

- Daniel Cormier is set to defend his
belt title – ok I don’t know what he’s even defending, but he’s the Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix champion. He is scheduled for a highly anticipated fight with former UFC champion Frank Mir in what we all hope is his final Strikeforce appearance. Not that we don’t like Strikeforce; but dammit, we want to see Cormier in the UFC.
Well last week, Cormier presented an option that we’ve heard before. Hearing it from Cormier makes it way cooler to think about it though. He suggested he should fight LHW champ Jon Jones, citing Bones’ perceived lack of competition right now. “At the beginning of the year, let us coach the next season of The Ultimate Fighter,” Cormier suggested to Bloody Elbow. “That gives me time to actually get my weight down, and in the summer time, we fight. How does that sound?”
To me, it sounds great! And to be honest with you, I think Cormier might be Jones’ biggest test yet. I always felt that it would take something dramatic—like a one-punch KO for one of Jones’ previous challengers to defeat him. I never really thought Rampage could beat him; same with Evans; same with Machida. I held reservation for Shogun, and I’ve left the door open for Henderson just because he does have that one-punch ability; but for the most part, I think Jones is as close to unbeatable as it gets. continued... I like it! What do you guys think of the idea of a Cormier vs Jones TUF? | |
