- Maybe Anderson has finally found a worthy adversary. As you know, the 2016 Summer Olympics will be held in Rio de Jinero Brazil, and hometown hero Anderson Silva would like try try his hand in either boxing or Tae Kwon Do. In an interview posted in FightLinker the UFC Middleweight Champ talked about his possible future plans.
“It would be a challenge in my career, and I’d like that. Participating in a competition like this is something really lacking for me, being an Olympian. I do not know if I would get used condition, the medal would be like the belt a consequence, but it would be great.”
Anderson does have boxing experience, going 1-1 in his short career. As for his Tae Kwon Do resume, all I know is that according to his wikipedia page he holds a black belt.
This isn’t the first time a highly established MMA fighter flirted with the Olympics, as it was just a few years ago that fellow UFC kingpin GSP talked about trying to make the Canadian team in wrasslin.
So what do you think fight fans? Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see Andy in either boxing or TKD, but if you ask me, being that the Olympics will be in Rio, I think they should introduce BJJ as an “exhibition sport” just like they did with TKD back in 1988 in Seoul, South Korea. source | |
