George St. Pierre has notably won 9 in a row and has been the undisputed UFC welterweight champion. The fast pace of mixed martial arts makes it seem like that was eons ago due to rehabilitating a knee injury. Before he returns to the octagon to face Carlos Condit talks of Anderson Silva vs GSP looms.
“I’m interested to fight whoever they put in front of me,” he told MMA Fighting on Tuesday. “I’m not afraid of nobody. I want to make the biggest fight. Right now, I just came back from a long time off, and I think the first guy in line is Carlos Condit. So I’m going to get who they give me.”
GSP is also quoted saying:
“Towards the end, I didn’t have the drive anymore.
I was doing it because I had to do it. I didn’t have fun anymore. I lost a little bit of the love for the sport.”
He continues on to say….
“There is a saying in English that you don’t repair something that is not broken.
Sometimes I believe you have to break it yourself to repair it, to make it better. Because the sport of mixed martial arts will evolve. If I stay at the same level, they will catch up to me. I need to evolve, to stay ahead of game.
The critics are always there. I listen to the critics. I’m very critical on myself.
I want to make more finishes myself. I want to be more exciting, take more risks, be more opportunistic. I’ve been working on that a lot.”
When asked about the possible match up with Anderson Silva again GSP replies:
“Who knows? I don’t know.
By the time I get there, maybe there’s going to be a new other guy that will be the next big thing and I’ll be fighting that guy. Things go fast in mixed martial arts. You never know.
There’s a lot of guys that want to fight me.
I’m going to tell you something I’ve learned: the only things you can control are what’s in your present. What is happening right now is I don’t have any fights signed. We don’t control life, we don’t control what goes on.

| Every fight the guy has had got my heart pounding. I think he is one exciting fighter, his technical destruction of opponents never causes me to doubt his skill or ability. If GSP thinks he can add another dimension to his game .... fine by me. I have only ever had two problems with GSP... One, the apologies when he thinks he didn't entertain enough and those FUCKING DUMB ASS back flips which I am convinced weakened his knees causing his current difficulties. War GSP! | |

| Eh, I'll believe it when I see it.
Does he win? Yes.
Is he dominant? Yes.
Is he exciting to watch? No way.
I agree with him that if it aint broke, don't fix it. But what aint broke for him is dominant, boring wins with no finishes. That's his thing, and I don't see it changing. You're telling me he's gonna suddenly get risky and wild against Condit? Or Silva? Or Diaz? No way in hell. Bu hey; he wins, so it is what it is.... | |
