Shogun Rua vs. Brandon Vera announced for UFC ON FOX 4

Mauricio Rua vs. Brandon Vera is the new UFC on FOX 4 main event.

The fight, scheduled to take place on Sat., Aug. 4, 2012, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif., was announced by the promotion a short while ago.

The new main event on August 4 will be a five-round light heavyweight battle between two of the best Muay Thai strikers in the game, Brandon Vera and former champion Shogun Rua. Rua is riding the momentum of the fight of the century against Dan Henderson, while Vera is back in the win column and looking to make a statement after being sidelined earlier this year due to injury himself.

Rua is being plucked from the UFC 149 card in Calgary, where he was set to face Thiago Silva until Silva suffered an injury. Vera, meanwhile, was training for a bout with James Te Huna at the July FUEL TV event. A new opponent for Te Huna is expected to be named shortly.

Hmmm this is actually a good move on the UFC's part to bring in a big name to the FOX card. Should be an exciting standup battle, but I think Shogun is better at everything. I'll watch for sure.

I don't know why, but I'm oddly intrigued by this fight.

Nope!

Vera COULD win this...but he's one of those fighters that falls into the category of "never as good as he could've been". I see Shogun by either decision or submission.

This. Vera is not an aggressive fighter the way Rua is, and he's not very good on his heels either. Shogun will dictate the pace of the fight and win by kicking Veras legs purple.

Vera must convince Shogun to stand in one place and trade punches from a stationary position Rock-Em Sock-Em Robot-style if he has a chance in this fight.

Rua will KO him in the first or 2nd round.
