Shortly after UFC president Dana White confirmed Frankie Edgar would get his rematch against lightweight champ Benson Henderson at UFC 150, MMA’s ultimate shot caller stated Urijah Faber (Pictured) will battle for the interim bantamweight title against a yet-to-be determined opponent at UFC 148.

Faber was slated to challenge reigning champion Dominick Cruz in the July 7th event, but “The Dominator” was forced to withdraw from their shootout Monday after tearing the ACL in his knee.

Cruz hasn’t defended his throne since posting a unanimous decision win over Demetrious Johnson in October 2011. He had surgery on his broken left index finger in January and then went straight into his coaching duties on “The Ultimate Fighter: Live.”

With a lengthy six to nine month rehab facing the 26-year-old, White was left with no choice but to break up the 135-pound logjam.

Renan Barao, Michael McDonald and Ivan Menjivar are the respective frontrunners to stand opposite “The California Kid.” Barao is currently scheduled to face Menjivar at UFC 148

Meh....

It's still not a title fight, IMO. This doesn't change much for me. It's just Faber fighting somebody who isn't Cruz.
